Re: Earl's Court 1994--Collapse?

Does anyone know what happened (or was there)? I heard that on one night during the PULSE tour, part of the stands collapsed. I'd have been scared out of my mind, if I'd been there--even if I were on stage performing and not in that area!

Re: Earl's Court 1994--Collapse?

Got the following from www.pinkfloyd-co.com/disco/pulse/pulse_trivia.html :

"Between Oct 12 and 29, 1994, Pink Floyd performed the end of The Division Bell tour at Earls Court, in the U.K.
...
The proceeds from all 14 of the shows performed (one was cancelled due to seating collapse) were donated to benefit Greenpeace, Amnesty International and other groups.
...
At the first Earl's Court show, Oct. 12, during the intro, a section of seating collapsed, injuring some fans, but fortunately none were hurt seriously, the show was cancelled for that night."

Re: Earl's Court 1994--Collapse?

Thanks.

BTW, I found this on that page: "At some point during one of the Earl's Court shows, Roger Waters was in attendance with a group of friends. David invited Roger to come on stage and perform during DSoTM, Roger refused."

I wonder if Mr. Wright was returning the favour when he went to Mr. Waters' concert in 1999?

Or maybe he was dying to see Rog like the rest of us?

Yeah, right.

Though he DOES seem rather forgiving. Maybe he wanted a shot at mending things just a bit? Who knows?

Re: Earl's Court 1994--Collapse?

Must I go through this again. In 1999, in a radio interview to promote his ITF tour, Roger admitted that he was asked to perform Dark Side while Floyd was on the PULSE tour. He also said that he felt a re-union was out of the question because there were too many hard feelings and things were said that both camps regretted saying. He just couldn't face them after some of the things that he said.

Rog has a heart after all.

Re: Earl's Court 1994--Collapse?

NNJ, believe it or not, I don't want a reunion, either. I just want the constant mudslinging to stop. I just want some reconciliation and some apologies...no reunions or anything like that.

Re: Earl's Court 1994--Collapse?

So Roger admitted to feeling this way regarding a reunion in 1999. Three years ago. He's seemed to have reconciled, or at the very least spoken with Nick, so perhaps a reunion ISN'T such an infinite improbability. He needs to get over his personal shame, give the guys a great big brotherly group hug (Hah! These are English guys we're discussing) and bloody well get on with it. I, for one, would most heartily welcome a reunion.

Are you joking, FWr? You call yourself a Pink Floyd fan?

I am totally convinced of your reasons for not wanting them back together, but can you REALLY say you'd not nearly KILL to get a "reunion" Pink Floyd album, and hope against greatest hope for a tour of their efforts.

Wouldn't you like to hear, again, a truly collaborative effort from four of your favourite musical idols - with all their accumulated experiences and ideas to throw into the melting pot to see what muck or magic results? I would and, indeed, would NEARLY kill for tickets to any such show. I might even long-haul travel to see it, God willing.

Hopeful Floydian,
Byron

Re: Earl's Court 1994--Collapse?

Certainly it WOULD be nice to think of...I am just thinking it would be almost impossible. Both RW's have developed strength in their own directions, Mr. Gilmour's used to leading the Floyd, and to be honest, I don't think anyone in the Floyd wants a reunion. To be honest, I think that would PROBABLY be best--there's too much freedom on both sides to be lost.

Of course, IF such a thing could happen, I think I'd want to see it!

Whew! So at heart, you ARE a Pink Floyd fan. Glad to hear it.

Incidentally, for different, more pessimistic reasons, I don't truly believe they'll ever reunite either. And if they did, I wouldn't hold out much hope of any sort of tour.

Ho hum. Hey ho.

Re: Earl's Court 1994--Collapse?

Actually I think a reunion tour is more likely than a reunion album, but I see neither of them actually happening.

Indeed. But it would probably beat A Momentary Lapse of Reason.

Re: Earl's Court 1994--Collapse?

I dunno, to me Rog comes off like kind of a prick. He seems to be a little faker than the rest of the band and more so into putting on a facade or front much more than playing music. I mean, threaten to not release the Wall until your keyboardist is kicked, what kind of childish shite is that?
could just be me. He is talented, not doubt, but he seems like a jerk - though, I can't judge, don't know him personally, sure he's a wonderful fellow

Love,
`me`

Re: Earl's Court 1994--Collapse?

In fairness to Mr. Waters (gasp!--the WrightSatellite is being FAIR!), I would say this holds true most for the time before ITF. More current interviews are showing a promising trend of maturity...he even uses that word in one of the most recent.
