ive been playing for just over a year so i could hopefully give u tips from a beginers veiw. i started because i loved DGs playing so much. i found www.tabcrawler.com very useful, they have pretty much everything there. but if u want proper tabs then buy the books because they are correct and clear if u practice enough, u can seriuosly play anything. HIGH AND DRY by RADIOHEAD is very very easy to play. it only has 3 chords and has an easy solo, sounds good too! the solo in HEY YOU is quite easy IS THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE has a beautiful and quite easy acoustic solo. probably the best thing is to buy the book for THE WALL, there are loads of guitar solos suitable for all guitarists

I don't know if this counts as having a solo or not (it may be too easy a piece) but I think that "Waves" from Richard Wright's first solo album has a pretty neat acoustic part in it, one that I've been working on. I also think Radiohead is a good suggestion--do you own the live CD "I Might Be Wrong"? If so, then perhaps "True Love Waits" might be an interesting song for you to try.

Hey, welcome to the boards. I've been playing for six months, and I'm doing alright. I know all too well that feeling of "Good god, this is harder than I thought." Anyway, here's some tips: 1) Play with the frets and strings at the same time. It sounds stupid, but a lot of people who aren't previously oriented with a musical instrument will just mindlessly strike open strings over and over again and never get anywhere. 2) Do dexterity exercises. By this, I mean moving your fingers around in midair and on the fretboard in as many different combinations as you can. 3) Learn songs you know by heart. Get tabs at tabcrawler.com and learn songs you can hum to yourself. 4) Challenge yourself. After you learn a few songs, take the next step and try to learn something complex, like say something by Tool or Smashing Pumpkins. Floyd fits in there as well. Take a step back, examine the tab/music you're looking at, and concentrate on memorizing each riff. 5) Play new chords every day. Learn them, play them, then repeat the process. Again. And again. And again. 6) GET LESSONS! True, Gilmour never learned the traditional way, but Steve Vai did.
