Yeah exactly! I mean listen to If It's In You, then you wonder what all the fuss is about regarding STLS. I do wonder if that bit with the false start was really necessary, and indeed I think Gilmour has publicly expressed remorse for it. While Barrett certainly was disintegrating at the time of its recording, did it do much apart from add to the 'loony' image which has cast such a shadow over Barrett?

Though it was all recorded and mixed very quickly, perhaps allowing Gilmours error of judgement not to receive proper scrutiny.

If It's In You is I think the only flaw and really BAD song on the two Barrett solo albums.

BTW welcome to the forum, I came here some two days before. It's pretty good and BIG and LOADS of information.

Thank you! I only joined about an hour ago myself.

I actually quite long If Its In You as a song, but Terrapin is my choice for the Madcap Laughs best track.

I STILL haven't yet heard STLS. want to tho.
as for the phonecall at the end of High Hopes was in step with the album's entire theme: Lack of Communication. Steve O'Rourke had always begged to appear on a Floyd album. that is him trying to talk to Polly Samson's 4 yr old son Charlie, who hangs up.

Listening to Scream Thy Last Scream at half it's original speed gives you Syd at his most haunting......

actually the sream thy last scream you are tlaking about is a live version from the BBC and they added some chupmunks stuff in the back. The originals of Vegetable man and Scream thy Last Scream are lost. Some great other live versions of the songs are live at the BBC aswell and on the website http://www.syd-barrett.it in the forum/messageboard section and is called "audio takes" also has many other BBC, John Peel session(solo barrett) and live in rottenham tracks.

it seems all of you think Barrett is singing this song.
but i hear Waters singing it and Barrett only here:
'She'll be scrubbing bubbles on all fours'

i have a question. Barrett says something in the song. it sounds something like 'AArghhh suck it'. guess it's not but... what is it?

He says "sock it to me", or some variation thereof.

There's no attachments in those posts, just the title and date. Anyway, the studio version that you claim is "lost" is the one with chipmunk voices. The BBC recording is a different take entirely and doesn't have any chipmunks on it, be they Alvin, Simon or Theodore.

Rick does sing on the live version I have. Actually, it's more like he assists Syd.

The live BBC version of Vegetable Man is a whole other story. I love the guitar solo/jam by Syd in that one.

"Sock it to me" was the popular phrase du jour at the time.

Re: Scream thy last scream

Mason sang in this track and Barrett sang the high pitched lines.
Did someone hear the high pitched laughs in the second "She'll be scrubbling bubbles on all fours"? I'm sure that Barrett says something before he laughs.
