Classic, almost reminds me of Syd's writing

I love "Sheep", but not mutton. It 'fits' the album. And the take on the 23rd psalm couldnt be better or more realistic. Its certainly as realistic as the original!

Re: 'Raving and drooling' & 'You gotta be crazy'

I think sheep is brilliant, the whole album took me a while to get into but only dogs is better than it on the album in my opinion. I think raving and drooling is good too, but i dont have you gotta be crazy.

Re: 'Raving and drooling' & 'You gotta be crazy'

Sheep may be the weakest track on the album (not counting both Pigs On The Wing) but it's still an excellent piece and features some of Rick's finest playing (IMO) his contribution is superb and compliments the track perfectly!!

From what I understand, that isn't Dave playing the solo on the POTW 8-Track...it's Snowy White. Confirm.

Re: 'Raving and drooling' & 'You gotta be crazy'

Maybe its just because they are new to me, but I prefer the older versions over Sheep and Dogs. I like the original lyrics for both of them, and on the show I have which is 1974/11/15 (black holes in the sky), the intro to raving and drooling is way better than sheep, that announcer just rambles on and roger interrupts screaming "raving and drooling i fell on his neck with a screaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamm! it sounds really cool. I'm guessing if WYWH was made how they originally wrote it, it would have been something like:

Side A:
Shine On You Crazy Diamond

Side B:
Raving & Drooling
You Gotta Be Crazy

Wow. Now that would have been one hell of an album.

Re: 'Raving and drooling' & 'You gotta be crazy'

True that would have been an album of three fantastic songs (or one fantastic song and two prototypes). But doesn't Nick Mason himself say in Inside Out that one of the reasons WYWH may not have gone down well was because of the 5 track playlist? How would it have gone down with only 3! The record company probably wouldn't have released it.

I love Animals exactly the way it is. The final riff of Sheep (as i've said elsewhere) is just about my favourite riff ever, I can't get enough of it. I can't help but listen to Raving and Drooling and You Gotta Be Crazy (at least the versions I have) without thinking their just works in progress towards the ultimate studio versions

Re: 'Raving and drooling' & 'You gotta be crazy'

Dark side was that big of a success I'm sure they would have no problem at all putting out a 3 track album. They could've done a double album but then they would've had to have filled up another side presuming Cigar, Machine and WYWH made the cut. Anyway to have two great songs like the two mentioned and then just shelve them because they "didn't fit into the concept" is pretty bold, 95% of other bands would have moulded the concept to fit their songs rather than what happened.

Well, those hadn't been written yet in 1974. I suppose they could have finished the Household Objects project enough to fill one side, but that would have made for an extremely weird double-album... three long pieces, three conventional songs, and 20 minutes of musical sound effects! Try coming up with a concept to fit THAT!
