Hey, what do your think

'Raving and Drooling' VS. 'Sheep'

'You Gotta be Crazy' VS. 'Dogs'

Personally, I lean toward the studio recordings!

While we're on the subject what about

'Pigs on the wing parts 1 & 2 separately' VS. 'Pigs on the wing 8-track version with that great solo'

That's different, if I had to burn a cd I would choose the 8-track version, but I like Animals the CD JUST THE WAY IT IS.
What do you think? Thanks!

"Dogs" and "Raving and Drooling" win.

Sorry, but "Sheep" absolutely wrecked the savagery and beat of the original.

raving and drooling. between dogs and you gotta be crazy is kind of harder. not too different just lyrics mostly. there is one where he sings it differently but that one is good too. pigs on the wing with guitar solo definitley.

Am I the only person who likes Sheep? True I don't thinks it's as good as the rest of the album (weakest track easily), but you gotta love some parts of it,like the beginning "Harmlessly passing their time in the grassland awaaaaaay". and what about the part about mastering the art of karate. Classic, almost reminds me of Syd's writing

I like Sheep, its pretty good. Pigs (3DO) is the worst of the album, and even that isn't all bad.

I also like sheep a lot, can't be considered the weakest track in the album, I think it's a very very good song, of course, Dogs and Pigs 3DO are better, pigs on the wing by themselves I think are weaker. Nobody can say that pigs on the wing part 1 is better than sheep. I mean a 1:30 minute song vs. a 10+ min. song, it's clear that sheep has a lot more talent and quality in it. Still pigs on te wing are great songs, perfect intro and outro to the album. The version with snowy white is awesome, and feels like more of a complete song in my opinion. Still, one can't imagine listening to animals without the intro and the hopefulness of Pigs on the wing part 2, which I consider to be an uplifting song, compared to the rest of the album.
While we are on this subject let's talk about the 'Raving and Drooling' and 'You Gotta be crazy' from the Azimuth Coordinator bootleg. Who thinks these are the best versions of these songs, or who can propose better versions in other ROIOS.

See ya, in the summer of '68

I absolutely love Sheep, Wright's keyboards, the blasphemic roadie, Waters' vocals, Gilmour's riff at the end, Mason's groove... Pigs 3DO isn't very good, and Dogs is great, but I find some passages boring. Pigs On The Wing 1 and 2 are lovely.

Lightbulb You Gotta Be Crazy Lyrics

I luckily ran into the lyrics from 'You Gotta Be Crazy' somewhere in the net.

It's interesting to see the changes in lyrics and how it got 'fixed' and became 'Dogs'.

Well here it is:

You gotta be crazy, you gotta be mean
You gotta keep your kids and your car clean
You gotta keep climbing, you gotta keep fit
You gotta keep smiling, you gotta eat shit

You gotta be small to be a big shot
You gotta eat meat to stay at the top
You gotta be trusted, gotta tell lies
You gotta be able to narrow your eyes

You gotta believe they've gotta believe you
You gotta appear easy to see through
Gotta be sure you look good on the TV
Gotta resemble a human being

You gotta keep one eye over your shoulder
Gonna get harder as you get older
Gotta fly south and hide in the sand
Gotta forget that you're gonna get cancer

And when you loose control
You'll reap the harvest you have sown
And as the fear grows
The bad blood slows and turns to stone

And it's too late to loose the weight
You used to need to throw around
So have a good drown
As you go down
Alone
Dragged down by the stone

Gotta be sure, you gotta be quick
Gotta divide the tame from the sick
Gotta keep some of us docile and fit
You gotta keep everyone burying this shit

You gotta get you started early
Processed by the time you're thirty
Work like **** 'till you're sixty five
And then your time's your own until you die

I gotta admit to a lot of confusion
Pain in the head is the child of collusion
Gotta resist the creeping malaise
You gotta beleive in the way you get out of the maze

But you, you just keep on pretending
You can tell a sucker from a friend
But you still raise the knife to
Stranger, lover, friend and foe alike

Who was born in a house full of pain
Who was sent out to play on his own
Who was raised on a diet of shame
Who was trained not to spit in the fan
Who was told what to do by the man
Who was broken by trained personnel
Who was fitted with bridle and bit
Who was given a seat in the stand
Who was forcing his way to the rails
Who was offered a place on the board
Who was only a stranger at home
Who was ground down in the end
Who was found dead on the phone
Who was dragged down by the stone

See ya, as I'm dragged down by the stone!!!

The 8-Track version of PotW (even better, the remastered one on Goldtop) ownz. It could have been a hit single, and Animals would have sold twice as many copies. That would have been so awesome... but then ABitW2 wouldn't have been as much of a surprise, I guess.

Smile

Agreed!

Man I've never thought of that before, that would have been something.

Wonder how Dave would have played that bridge solo

All in all, I still think Pigs on the wing separated as they are really play their part within the concept of the album. Even though the extended 8-track version is a fuller song and would have boosted the sales IMO as you said.

See ya, and no one sings me lullabies!
