Re: Synchronicity

Can anyone tell me EXACTLY what needs to be done to appreciate the Wizard of Oz/Dark Side of the Moon phenomenon...so far i have heard that you need to start DSOTM exactly after the 3rd roar of the MGM lion,..?

What do i need to look for...do I need to look hard or does it just happen and flow perfectly with the film...?...how long do they synchronize for..all the way or just a little while?...

I have got at present..
---------------------

a perfect copy of DSOTM
a DVD player/CD player
a tele (widescreen)
a pair of excellent, working condition eyes and ears
an hugely broad, creative side and open mind
a death-cheating love of pink floyd

I WILL get
----------
a copy of Wizard of Oz

I already know this much
------------------------
1. you mute the sound on Oz and piss the moaning old bastards off next door* by cranking up DSOTM.
*(if you have any who you hate that is...I am lucky..I love my n/bours to bits, but then again, how can you hate someone when you give them the privelage of the dark side of the moon experience?)

2. skin up if you smoke the exotic tobbacco.
( i am not a regular user, i cant afford cigarettes let alone Jamaican woodbines. I also dont promote or preach about use of mind altering substances.)

Thanks in advance for any additional reccomendations!!!!

Darren

Re: Synchronicity

I find the thing to be true to some extent.

I've done it many times in a short amount of time and have found:

a.) Some of the stuff out on those sites you'll find on the net are kind of crap, pending on when you start it.
b.) Try to listen to the lyrics as well as watch for character introductions and scene changes expressed in the musical changes in tone and mood.
c.) Be very liberal with the third roar rule, you might want to delay it just by a fraction of a sec. if you have a qucik player.

First off, the first chords of Breathe *should* ring out as the Producer or somebody's name appears on the screen, but it does fade in, so that's terribly confusing.

The main parts are basically watch Dorothy balancing on the post as "Long you live and high fly, only if you ride the tide and balanced on the biggest wave *she waves her arms to keep her balance* race towards an early grave *she falls in the pig pen*" then the track "On the Run" chimes in as the frantic rescue of Dorothy is conducted by the future cowardly lion.

Other parts can be interpreted, but next the clencher is Dorothy watching the sky left to right (or is it left to right?) as the plane roars and crashes at the end of On The run. Of course, you'll have to watch for something especially bone chilling when the bells first chime on "Time" (watch closely) and then the ensuing arguement between parties and the base chords.

Another thing is the lyrics "Waiting for someone or something to show you the way" as Toto leaps into Dorothies open room window, and then again "No one told you when to run" as Dorothy is, well, running away.

The solo in Time comes just as they both encounter the fortune teller and you see "Past Present and Future" written on the caravan.

Another creepy part, is the sequence of Great Gig In the sky matching both the shifting of the twister and dorothy's screams, along with the rising and falling action of the house (supposedly the first drum parts coincide with the first tree falling and blowing across the screen...eh, i guess"

Re: Synchronicity

sorry about all this, but there is alot and I want you to be informed:

Where was I, oh right...Dorothy opens the door to find Munchkinland (just as the change begins on Money) The first side of Dark Side is actually the exact lenght of the black and white portion of the film. She begins to walk with the bass line chiming in. The lyrics "Don't give me that do-goody-good bullshit" sound as the Good witch Glinda enters...some rumor that when she hold her wand it looks like she's changing chords on a guitar. But, the Munchkins seem to dance with the beat of Money and likewise march to it. One of the midgits seem to say "I don't know I was really drunk at the time" when speaking with the Mayor of Munchkinland. Us and Them starts roughly around the same time when the Death Certificate is presented "Us, us, us, us, and them, them, them, them" welcome the Lullaby League, and the "Me, me, etc..." ushers the Lollypop guild.

"Black and Blue" Enter Wicked With, pan to Dorothy (the second time), "And who knows which is which (witch is witch?) and who who is who" as they two witches share frame, and then "Up, up, etc..." the witch has her broom elevated "Down, etc..." she searches for the Ruby slippers "It's just Round and Round, and round" Dorothy displays her new slippers. "There's room for you inside, said the man with the gun" the which points like a gun.

"Down and out" exuents the Good witch. Then cut the exact change into Brain Damage (song number "If I only had a brain") as Dorothy encounters the Scarecrow, "The Lunatic is on the grass" as Scarecrow dances on the Yellow Brick Road with the green patch in the background. "The paper boy brins more" as scarecrow shift his hay stomach...the kind of scattered drums, i think, represent the scarecrow's fumbling steps.

Cut to the scene with the alive trees throwing apple, Tinman's foot appears as laughter chimes in, and "Evertying you eat" or it might "all that you taste" as dorothy reaches for the oil can. And the album fades with Dorothy beating on Tin's chest.

There have been other theories about what to follow the album or also when to start it, but I believe it all to be crap beyond the first cycle of DSoTM. But, if you'd like you can try them. Start Dark Side after either the first, or second, or third roar of the MGM lion or even the third roar of The Cowardly Lion. After dark Side ends, repeat the album (I found the songs kind of match, particularly Tin Man's dance, and when they exit the field into Emerald City "Calls the faithful to their knees" when they stumble through the flowers) which would express the perpetualness of the album. Or follow with Animals, then Meddle (programmed tracks 2-5 ending on "Seamus" with a country-bluegrass sounding background to when Dorothy returns to Kansas") or follow with Wish You Were Here, then nothing, or follow with Animals, then Disc one of The Wall.

Eh, for what's it worth. Sorry was so long

Love from the Underside, and a very good night,
`Me`

Re: Synchronicity

Also, one last night (I apologize)

I don't know if the drug use would help, most likely not, since dulling your sense with Pink is as about as deadly as listening to them in the dark (which I highly recommend for this), but anyhow, I think combination of the two might kill you. And also, eating from coincidental munchies can distract you from catching stuff  sowwy.
