Re: 10 years ago

“Careful . . .

Careful . . .

Careful with that axe, Eugene . . .”

Those are the first Pink Floyd words that I really heard, really noticed . . . Coming from the TV screen, these words stabbed me with powerful lyrical efficiency, divinely empowered by psychedelic musical background, set free at Pompeii to live on their own, to haunt me for many years to come . . . I had heard Floyd songs (from The Wall and DSOTM) before on radio, but never considered them to be of the same class as The Rolling Stones and some other bands (I admit I was young and stupid back then :smile. The musical journey at Pompeii performed by four seemingly ordinary guys (ragged band) completely changed my perception of music and its importance in understanding the world around me (and I even missed first part of Echoes that day :smile. An immediate thought came to my mind: “I mean, forget Bach, Mozart etc., If we (humans) were ever to contact outer space beings, it should be through this fantastic music experiment . . .” Only later on I discovered there was a number of Pink Floyd songs that might serve this purpose as well . . .
It happened in March, 1992, just a couple of weeks before one of a whole series of fratricidal wars in my native country broke out. I was 18.

Re: 10 years ago

If his name is any indication (YugoFloyd), I would say it's Yugoslavia he's talking about. The time period is about right...and that had to be an awful tragedy.

YugoFloyd, if you don't mind my asking, were you already out of the country? I truly hope your family has been safe, as well.

Re: 10 years ago

yes it was a rather difficult time for everyone, from my recollection I was about 6 at the time... not fully understanding the things going on around me, kinda wierd looking back on it now.
