PINK FLOYD et.al VERSUS today's crap on the Radio!!

PLEASE NOTE: this is a VERY opinionated and personal thread...please dont read on if you begin to feel offended by its contents or take it personally against you, the reader....it has been written to provoke good, hard debate. its my feeling in favour of the Floyd and other bands around their time and talent.

I think that manufactured bands like Hear'Say, S-Club7 et.al and Boy bands (BackStreet Boys, N-Sink (can't be arsed to spell it properly) are shit because there is so little or non - existent talent...look at the Floyd and the array and super-wide spectrum of different sounds they produced and the following they have and still have..or THE WHO...the hysteria of their time and how excited they got people..or the Beatles..I need to say no more about them wel all know the reign they had over music like ABBA..but the writing talent of Waters and the playing talent of Gilmour, Mason and Wright....

what SHIT gets on the radio these days?...

"Oh baby when i look into your eyes" and "..I wanna be with you girl"..

its CRAP!!!! repetitive and talentless crap...but the futures of the bands piping out this crap are funded by small girls in short skirts and kleenex filled boob tubes...the likes of the talent of the Floyd, The Who, Led Zep..all get relegated to the small record shop down the backstreet that nobody knows except the people who wear Star-Trek t-shirts and wear milk bottle bottom specs..the ones who work there but who understsnd the essentials of class mucic and these shops often have a large musical instrument shop upstairs with someone who will appreciate Gilmour and Clapton and the likes...

Go into a multi-national music store (Virgin, HMV, Our Price) and its the likes of a 14 year old lad drooling over the Britney Spears poster in the background or bleeting and babbling about his car stereo system to his mate while totally ignoring you standing there like a spare prick at a wedding as they listen to some over powered bass-line track...ask for the floyd and they point you to the top ten releases where you find Echoes... ask for Atom Heart Mother or More and they look at you like your dicks hanging out your trousers.these people who work in a music shop who know f*** all about everything or everything about f*** all..Music has changed so much for the worse...the Strat is losing its standing against the monotony of the Technics direct drive turntable...

What about OASIS..those two are really dumb...Liam thinks that he's got the sun up his arse because he sticks a middle finger up at a press camera..WOW!!!!..if your gonna gain bad publicity do it properly.....at least the WHO used to trash Airlines and hotel rooms..like Rod Stewart..The WHO set the bizzare standard for smashing up their equipment after gigs...or it might have been the Sex pistols....but the band members of today are just so dumb...you got the likes of that prick from East 17 (sorry U.S. this is mostly British....)who glorified Cocaine and Ecstasy...okay so the floyd took coke and smoked..they glorified it through the sheer quality of their music...and they didnt smash their stuff up at the end of their gigs fair enough...or hotel rooms....but they were brilliant in their own way....like on pompeii....when they're eating and Dave, in his Cambridge accent asks for a glass of milk...its brilliant...they didnt have to make gangster type rap songs and swear uncontrollably..how often did/does Waters or Gilmour use the word motherf**ker in order to be heard, or overpower their bass lines so they drowned all the other instruments (the Floyd never played or wrote for the "SAAB driving, gun packin'knife weildin' pimp drug dealer")....they knew what they were doing......when on the pompeii vid Dave turns round and says...

"I think it'd be an interesting experiment...get 4 people... didn't know what they were doing and just told them to get on with it..it'd be an interesting experiment......i think we'd come off better"

I think he tempted most of the rest of the world to prove him wrong...and not one of todays bands are a scratch on them.

Its also worth quoting

I don't think it's right to say "talentless" about anything at all. Talent as a category is a very subjective thing. I can't see microbe. It doesn't mean microbe doesn't exist. It means my eyes aren't adapted for seeng such things. If one doesn't see talent (whatever it is) it can mean anything, not only this thing is talentless. Though it can be true.

Music has changed so much for the worse...Yes, but people changed very much too. There were lots of people in 70-th who thought that rock is crap and nobody could do anything to compare with music of 30-th I think. And there were the majority who was drooling from rock music. The situation didn't change. It's only pop "stupid, talentless shit" music instead of rock. And I know people who are getting very exited only hearing name of Robbie Williams (sp?).

And about band members. I guess it's their style of self-expression, nothing else. Or mayby it's a part of their scenic image. It has excuses.

I've got to say that I agree with your opinion fully (and got quite a kick out of reading the way you phrased things!). Music today doesn't seem to have any feeling: it's all mass-produced, and no one has anything to say... everyone just wants to sell a record! Nothing better than money! A lot of bands were or maybe even still are being manufactured by these talent agents who select them for a cute face and then make up the rest by computer to get the results they want. Britney Spears doesn't even sing her "own" songs on-stage so she can "concentrate on her dance moves." You know, the ones that she had someone else coreograph for her? It's all a bunch of fluff! Oh and then there are these people who pretend to be into the Floyd or Zeppelin because they bought their "Greatest Hits" albums... ask them who John Bonham is and they wonder aloud if it's the person who was in their fourth-period gym class!

Hah, it's true. I hate talking to someone who claims to be a Pink Floyd fan about Echoes and realize I'm talking about the song and he's talking about the compilation.
