Re: The Syd we miss so dearly...

Does anyone own or has seen the Syd Barret's First Trip movie? This has to be one of my most prized posessions of Floyd stuff. I cant watch it too much because I get all teary-eyed thinking about it. Very good background music too. It isnt Floyd but it really helped the film. Some footage of this movie can be seen in the VH1 segment about Floyd/Barrett. Check it out if you havent already.

Which explains nothing to me...I mean, I don't even like to see the stuff drunks do, personally. And ESPECIALLY in light of what happened to Mr. Barrett after that first trip--it just seems rather voyeuristic, if not downright chilling.

Re: The Syd we miss so dearly...

My now ex-girlfriend got me the DVD a couple of weeks ago when I saw her last. We watched it together with her father and they were disgusted, I was captivated. I, too, saw the segments from the VH1 special and have that on tape as well. I watched it twice this morning and I think only true Pink Floyd fans can appreciate it, after all, it is mainly Syd on drugs but it also has some early shots of the Floyd at Abbey Road. Which is neat. I think it's cool personally, but I agree with the not liking to see that sort of thing...I hate drunks as well.

Love,
`Me`

Re: The Syd we miss so dearly...

I just think its nice to see Syd before all of the bad stuff happend to him. Its like a certain point in his life, something happend, and poof, he was never the same. I like seeing Syd before he even knew what was coming, when was still happy. Its also nice to see early Floyd members hanging out. And that van...oh man I want it! I would love to actually own it. Anyways, yeah, I enjoyed the "Syd's First Trip" experience, seeing him in the prime of his youth. And still pretty sane.

What do you mean with that? My original video is silent, is the new DVD featuring background music? And if you weren't just being sarcastic, who is it by?

Re: The Syd we miss so dearly...

Yes, the dvd has background music. It is done by Hypnotic Records recording artists DILATE. Its all like slow synth stuff with no beat, but it makes the vid soooo much cooler to watch than a silent film. It fits the mood just right. I give the band a thumbs up. If you havent seen the version with music, you should. Its not any different than the silent one, but the added music really helped.

Re: The Syd we miss so dearly...

The track was pretty trippy. I still say they should have played maybe "Shine On" to it, though I know it is terrily tacky.

I just got chills up the spine when they had the four note guitar intro to Shine as the close up on Syd at Abbey Roads played (from the VH1 Legends program). It was emotional.

Love,
`Me`

Re: The Syd we miss so dearly...

I have my doubts that Pink Floyd would have allowed Shine On to accompany it.

Wrong button! Anywho... So is this video a good investment then? Something I should look into?
