I f-u-c-k-i-n-g hate it when some clueless bastard claims that The Beatles were nothing but a "glorified boy band" as you put it in an earlier post. You obviously have no clue what you're talking about. You say they did nothing of importance up to Sgt. Pepper. Have you heard Revolver? If you haven't, I suggest you do, and then come back and tell me that it isn't impressive. When you consider that they were recording simplistic songs like "I Want to Hold Your Hand" and "She Loves You" just three years prior, you might get a sense of just how brilliant they were, evolving like that in such a short period of time. And regarding songs like "I Want to Hold Your Hand" and "She Loves You": to most musicians in the early Sixties, these early Beatle songs that sound so simplistic now were revolutionary. Here was a band that wrote its own tunes, played their own instruments, and injected new life and unprecedented creativity back into rock and roll, which was dying when they first burst onto the scene. Back then, in the early to mid-Sixties, all of this was unheard of. Almost every piece of rock music recorded since then owes a huge debt to The Beatles, including Pink Floyd. Just ask Syd Barrett how much they influenced him and the rest of the Floyd back in the early days (if he weren't a recluse and he'd actually stoop to talking to someone as musically misinformed as you).

Have a nice day
Now THERE'S a fierce Floydian. More biting and scratching :o

I wouldn't dream of denying The Beatles were very significant to the shape of popular music today both commercially and musically - with appreciative and oft-forgotten nods to The TRUE King of rock-and-roll, Johnny "Cry" Ray - but being the perpetual skeptic "sceptic" (sceptic tank = Yank) I'd hesitate to elevate the Fab Four to such lofty heights. They too were JUST musicians, very lucky, very hard-working musicians. Right-place@Right-time lucky.

Most modern popular Western music, for The Beatles weren't REALLY "Rock'n'Roll per se, owes it's origns to gospel hymns and spirituals and American folk. The FABs started off like many groups playing live, covering comtemporary hits but also interjecting their own stuff which was at the time a practice generally unheard of. Undoubtedly, there was lyrical and musical talent present and developing. That and their various perspectives and consistency in producing catchy - occasionally vapid, occasionally brilliant - tunes, combined to form what we now know of as THE BEATLES.

The irony is probably that Paul will be the only one left NOT dead, burying them all.

Wing'd Icarus,

I think I won my bet with thorin13: no true PF fan could resist this most excellent resource for PF and music-related entertainment for very long, if at all.

So he owes me a doughnut (I don't think we actually got round to naming the wager, but I want a doughnut as my prize).

And as for my response to your rather provocative post earlier, I can only retract my uncharacteristic epithet: "precious, jumped-up little dweeb," but the rest must stand.

May I suggest in future, at those times when you CAN be a twisted prick or musical Nazi, that you finish all your jocular or otherwise light-hearted posts with a "Just Kidding" tag of some kind: "j/k", etc.

Floyd on!
Byron

A.) Above, I plan to heed your good advice, though I don't think I'm making myself any more popular in this forum. And it's perfectly understable that the rest should stand.

B.) Thanks to strat for the warm welcome (back) and a new handle just seemed appropriate to me...also someone knocked my old one apparently they didn't care for it too much, for whatever reason.

Well, since I didn't specify what kind of doughnut I wanted, I suppose I'll have to take what I can get.

Oh well, would have preferred a plain cake doughnut with chocolate sprinkles but hey ho.

It's sad to believe that you people listen to the same music as I, it's depressing that you emulate a band like Pink Floyd, and I can only assume that's why you're here. I mean, Lord knows, should any of the members of this band even meet you snot-nosed punks, they would wretch at your zits and pizza stained "Led Zepplin" t-shirts. They'd look down upon you and want to give up the music industry all together, knowing their hard-earned money for their personal art is coming from you losers. May God forgive you, I'm leaving.

Goodbye,

PS I don't know if it's possible, but if any moderator would like to get rid of my info, it'd be greatly appreciated. I don't want to be associated with you dirty, dirty little men.

I was referring to the post above yours - you got in just before me.
BTW I can honestly say I've never tried to "emulate" Pink Floyd in my life!
