Is it just me or does Doyle play his guitar upside down?? By that i mean with the high strings on the top and the low strings on the bottom. Has anyone else noticed this?

Good observation, Pedge. I just got my DVD of ITF and noticed the same thing. He plays left-handed, with the strings "reversed" as you noted. (ala Dick Dale). I noticed his strat is a left-hand body, a right-hand neck, and therefore the bridge pickup is angled the opposite way for the way it is reverse-strung. (ala Jimi Hendrix).

One other observation----Bramhall's wife is a babe!

I'll annoy everyone with more commentary on ITF later!

Personally I think Doyle is the good-looking one---then again, I'm a girl.

He was a wicked red sparkle strat that I would love to get my hands on.

Welcome to the board, S-C-M!

Yeah, Doyle is a good-lookin' dude, and his guitar is beautiful.

You might wanna check out the "help with equipment" thread in the "General" forum... we were just discussing Doyle and SRV.

Are there any other lefties here? Do most learn to play with a right handed guitar upside down (ala McCartney originally). I'm left-handed but learned to play the guitar right-handed, playing the chords is a bit easier that way.

I'm sure most lefties just turn a RH guitar upside down and restring it so the Low E is on the top. (since LH guitars are harder to come by). Doyle & Dick Dale are the only ones I know of who play leftie w/ low E at the bottom.

My brother is left-handed, and he plays guitar right-handed beautifully. So it is possible.

It just depends on which way you start out. It's probably equally difficult either way. Ironically, in playing right handed, the left hand is doing the job that requires the most dexterity.

I used to teach guitar, I was always told to teach left handed students the same, i.e. teach them right handed.

I find it useful that way. It takes longer to pick up speed with the right hand though obviously, but I can probably pick faster with my right hand than my left now.

Question: would a left handed person if tought guitar as a right hander, not notice the difference anyway? Or would they notice straight away that it doesn't feel right. I tried struming my left handed friends guitar, but to no avail.

I can't remember what it felt liked when I first picked up a guitar, I think I found it natural to play right handed. If I play it left handed, playing the chords is almost impossible, I guess you just get used to it.
