Dsot or PULSE

I must confess to liking both equally- its just a shame that there weren't less shared compositions between the two...

Although the live rendering of Dark Side of the Moon on Pulse is beautiful, I feel that it's rather indicitive of latter Floyd and their inability to work with imagery that they choose to include the 'tolling of the iron bell', rather than leave it implied, which is what gives the original studio album it's longevity, acheiving the status of not just a record for it's time, but for all time.

Well, honestly you should buy both, but first buy the studio Dark Side Of The Moon. In my opinion you should start off with the original, and work your way into the live version, because once you become accustomed to hearing the studio version, once you hear the live version(without Roger), you're gonna be like "Oh wow, this is different..............and this part's different to!". Trust me, I did this when I got into Pink Floyd, I loved it.

I'd definitely go with Pulse.... the version of CN on Pulse is incredible, especially the part of the solo with the soaring guitar (the part where the mirror ball opens up on the video). That gives me chills every time i hear it. i use to love DSOT, but I don't feel it's aged very well.... especially the video.

Comfortably Numb from DSOT is what Dr Waters would subscribe to all Floydian geeks .........

IMO.......

the rest of stuff from DSOT sounds too crappy , short , greatest hits package .
apart from CN , 1994 Pulse live album by itself is much better then DSOT . Pics , cover , Booklet is excellent . Sound is superior.
and there is no feeling of musical-hit jukebox .

my first album was DSotM and i still love it. i bought pulse about 4 years after dark...and i would have to say that at first i didnt like it. i thought it sounded kinda raw with dave's voice being so, umm old sounding. but pulse really grew on me and i think that it is a great buy. so just be sure to hear both versions, because they are both great.
