Album of 2010

Come on now, you can't all be so old that you don't listen to anything new at all!

Album of the year?

I heard that if you play a Justin Bieber album backwards,you hear satanic messages;

- what's even worse, is if you play it forward,...you hear Justin Bieber!

Re: Album of 2010

Three artists from here in Ontario (that aren't Justin Bieber) put out albums last year I particularly enjoy:

Steven Page's Page One: rock-solid power-pop hooks with great vocals and lyrics from the ex-Barenaked Ladies singer. He also put out a chamber music covers album called A Singer Must Die with the Art of Time ensemble last year, and it's pretty cool.

A great dance LP, entitled Latin, courtesy of a band named Holy F—— ...yeah, not the most radio-friendly name, but they are absolutely insane live. I saw them for the first time in 2008 when I was in Ireland, and this record really captured that boiling energy.

There's also an album called Album (heh), put out by Hooded Fang, some more of my Toronto friends that are almost unfairly talented. They write musicals, AND play gorgeous rock and roll!

As for American albums, it's either Halcyon Digest by Deerhunter, Transit Transit by Autolux, or Spark by Alain Johannes... strong, dreamy soundscape music with sinister vocals and killer musicianship. I love 'em all, can't decide.

Re: Album of 2010

Not sure I have anything new for 2010. I will post things I discovered in 2010 as well as a few 2010 releases

Vampire Weekend - both CD's (one 2010 and one older)
Panic at the Disco - Pretty Odd (2008)
Arcade Fire - Suburbs
The Young Vines - Take a Vacation (still checking this one out, love the first song)
Cake (a few songs, still checking out)
Philip Selway - Familial (drummer from Radiohead)
Pearl Jam - Backspacer (2009)

That is all that I recall

Oh yeah... I also totally forgot to recommend our boy Neil Young's "true solo album" from last year, Le Noise (written and produced entirely by Canadians), which won Neil his first Grammy for Best Rock Song ("Angry World"... not my personal favourite on that record, but what the hey). Vancouver-born Michael Buble won a Grammy, too, but I don't think any other Canadians did. Next year we're coming back for every category...!

Re: Album of 2010

I quite liked the Smiles and the Frowns but my album of 2010 is the re-release of Screamadelica by Primal Scream (2011).

It's now 2011. Opeth's new record is all prog and no death metal. It's very good indeed.
