| Re: Gilmour Vs. Page Yep, like many famous songs from famous bands, Stairway's a bit overrated. Not that it's a bad song, nor that it isn't as good as it is said to be, because it really is a beautiful rock ballad, with very good vocals, great guitar riffs and a good solo. It might just be that the good ole' Zep has written also a bunch of other songs, and some of 'em are even better, but that also (sadly) applies for a lot of other great bands, and PF are no exeption. I mean, how many times have you all come across people who, as soon as you mentioned your love for the Floyd, were only capable of naming "Another Brick in the Wall (part II)"? Maybe the true companion for Stairway would be Wish You Were Here, anyway, at least IMHO, 'cause it's the very well known ballad everyone relates to. I know I've gone a bit too far with my rambling, but the point I'd like to make is that every great band is bound to write, sooner or later, a song that's destined to become some sort of a cage, but here on this forum we have enough knowledge to cross these boundaries and make clever statements, so when it comes to comparisons between Page and Gilmour, please try not to come up only with CN and Stairway, 'cause neither Page nor BDG would be very happy with that. Anyway, I'd choose the '71-79 Gilmour any day. But Page is REEEEALLY awesome, anyway! ![]() Oh, by the way, which one's Pink? ![]()

| Re: Gilmour Vs. Page At least Gilmour never put his name on riffs lifted from long dead bluesmen. |

| Re: Gilmour Vs. Page Page!?!? Page who??? No contest. Hands down Mr. Gilmour wins. You know that picture that says "Clapton is God"? Well, it was suposed to read "Gilmour is God" but the jackass who wrote it didn't know how to spell Davids last name. I'm surprised they didn't write "Page is God". That seems simple enough. Of course, I feel that if God came to Earth in the form of a guitar player, it would be Mr. Gilmour. Page is good (and overated IMO). But for me you would have to pick someone better to go head to head with Mr. Gilmour. Anywho... ~Brian~

lol. With you on that one. Sooo many ppl know only that song.. and they don't know Floyd or The Wall or whatever.. they just go... "Yea, I like the one...'we don't need no education..' " As for the question - I really respect Page, but Gilmour is one guitarist who can make the guitar sing the verses of the song... when Gilmour starts a solo in the middle, you don't feel like "ok, the vocals just got over, the guitar's on now" - it's just one continous stream.... the guitar simply keeps the feeling of the song up...

| Re: Gilmour Vs. Page Dave gets a very unique sound out of his guitar. Like many of you have said...and I agree..It is difficult to compare guitar legends because each has it's own style...even if in the same genre, there is still a difference...But I will say this..SRV was bad ass on the guitar..if you have never seen him play, watch a tape. Just saw one for the first time not to long ago. It's definitely worth it.... Wonder if Doyle might fall in the ranks years from now... ![]()

| jimmy page Well, since Page has more experence, for example he was in the Yardbirds before L.Z., his talent is deffinitly expressed in all their songs, I like David, but I think he doesn't use his talent very well, like he hides it or or doesn't make good use out of it as well. |

Please read up before you say something like that... And I couldn't really decide, them being 2 of my top 5 favorite guitarists. I like Gilmour's playing style more, but Page is NOT THAT SLOPPY. He owns on the BBC Sessions, that's enough for me. Page's arrangements are better too....

| Re: Gilmour Vs. Page It's not about reading. I can hear the riffs on led zep 1 and 2. I don't see any Robert Johnson writing credits on those albums. The lyrics, too. Squeeze my lemon is straight out of Robert Johnson.
