Yes, that's the thing. Plant was the one stealing lyrics. But actually, those lyrics could have been public domain by then and it wouldn't have mattered.

The only complete Zep rip-off I can think of is Gallows Pole, which is a TOTAL rip-off. The Lemon song is like 3/4 half the music, all the lyric. But that's also what all old Blues bands do.

I can't think of any other page rip-offs... except for Babe I'm Gonna Leave You.

I don't think Gilmour's as good as most of you try to make it seem.

Re: Gilmour Vs. Page

I agree. He is good, but him alone just don't cut it (see my thoughts on CN expreesed in various other threads). It was the effect of 4 different styles merging together that made Floyd great.

Re: Gilmour Vs. Page

I gotta say people...I don't think Page or Gilmour would have any respect for this topic at all. They are grown, intelligent men, and in the world of legendary guitarists, I doubt they play the I am better than you game...seems pretty juvenile. So why should we play it? At any rate, I did find some of the comments worthy...such as comparing sound, technique. Pink Floyd is my favorite band, however, I won't make teenage comments stating "David is the Best" just because. I guess I just have an overall respect for all these great guitarists mentioned...I don't see bashing/comparing as useful conversation.

Re: Gilmour Vs. Page

Page and Gilmour have couple of things in common when comparing to other "guitar gods". They are both very skilled with both acoustic and electric guitar, they are great live players (songs differ notably from studio-versions) and great song-writers. When you think about other famous players like Clapton, Santana, Satriani... etc. they are missing some of those qualities. Page and Gilmour are versatile and that's what makes them so special for me, that's why they are my two favourites.

When comparing these two, I'd say Page can handle more different styles and his riffs are better. Gilmour, on the other hand, has larger scale of sounds and his playing is more deliberate. It's true that Page's quality of playing varies a lot and he has some really boring and trivial songs. But as his best he is really, really good. So it's hard choise but if I had to choose, I'd say Gilmour. But that's probably because I prefer Floyd from Zeppelin.

But like it's been said, does is matter who's better when they're both great? And for those who say Page is overrated, just listen to Achilles Last Stand, for instance, then come back and say it again

Right on Brotha! I completely and totally (and apparently redundantly) agree...

Right on UncleZoso...like what you had to say...especially your comparisons...that's the way to do it.

I agree ... but I'll do this anyway, heh.

I would like it if gilmour would vary his sound more during guitar solos. He does it a bit but not enough for my liking.

As everyone knows what Dave is good at is timing notes and phrases perfectly andplaying them in the most tasteful way possible getting everything from those notes which more than compensates from his lack of technical virtuosity (though he's still v. good).

Page relies more on his technical ability as a player but doesn't have quite as good musical taste (IMO)
