Looking for Beatles help

Hey everybody. I've been here long enough for you to gather that I wouldn't post a thread without checking out the search engine, but I couldn't find anything specific enough for me in other threads. So here goes, and please feel free to chastise me for making a DDT if I have.

I've been a Floyd fan for many years, and lately I've been hearing more and more Beatles songs that I like. So, I've decided I'm going to get a Beatles album or two, and I'm looking for some recommendations.

Now, before everyone shouts off their fave Beatles album, I'll narrow it down a bit. I'm probably gonna want a compilation to start off with, as I own no other Beatles material. Also, I've concluded that Harrison is my favourite Beatle; my favourite songs are "Here Comes The Sun" and "Something". I'm also familiar with Harrison's stuff he's done with the Traveling Wilburys on both of their albums. So I was thinking either a Beatles compilation or a Harrison compilation, since I think there's one with some of his Beatles and solo stuff on one CD.

So, any recommendations are welcome and would be much appreciated! I see that "Cloud Nine" has finally been rereleased on CD, but I'm a little wary getting an actual album just yet.

If you want a good Beatles comp, you should get '1'.

Also, With the Beatles is their best early album, and Abbey Road their best, most collected later album.

Purely opinion,

-Shane

I like almost all of them, but the one that comes first to mind is Revolver. The White Album is a must, as well - I'd say they jumped the shark with that one.

Re: Looking for Beatles help

I would agree that 1 is probably your best bet fot a first Beatles album.

As for George, don't mess about..just get All Things Must Pass.

Re: Looking for Beatles help

Thanks for the tips, guys. I'm gonna go bumble about on Amazon and listen to some clips of those albums. If anyone else has any other suggestions, still feel free to voice them.

Sgt. Pepper's is considered their masterpiece. You might wanna get that. Also, Revolver is damn good.

Re: Looking for Beatles help

Revolver is my favorite...and Abby Road (which has the 2 songs you mentioned) is a close 2nd in my opinion. Don't waste your money on a compilation the Beatles are better then a compilation band...you'll probably want to end up getting most of their post rubbersoul albums anyways, then you'll just end up with duplicate songs.

Rubber Soul! Don't forget about Rubber Soul. That's a great record.
I also have the Red 64-67 compilation and it's a pretty good collection of the early years without having to buy 4 or 5 albums.
