I've been bleating and babbling around the forums unregistered... 'Ello there. I'm SkyrimOrBust, your average everyday Floyd fan. Gettin' some basic stuff out of the way... my favorite album is Animals, it never bores me. My ultimate wish is for Pink Floyd to reunite and do a one-off world tour and for me to see them. I've never seen a live Floyd show (I was born a little late for that party) and I'd give a lot to get a chance to see it. My biggest regret is not buying tickets for Roger's concert in Chicago last year... Ah well. Hope to converse with fellow Floydian's around the forums. *SoB

Re: I've been bleating and babbling around the forums unregistered... Welcome to the forums mate. My favourite album is Meddle because that was my floydian introduction, was it the same in your case? Sadly I don't think they ever will reform again, especially now Rick has gone to that great gig in the sky. They had one last chance for Syd's memorial concert, but sadly didn't go for it. A great shame in my opinion.

And Animals wasn't my intro actually, The Wall was. That was my favorite for some time and then I changed it. |

Re: I've been bleating and babbling around the forums unregistered... Ah good stuff, when I got into them Meddle was the latest album and I listened to it round a school mate's place and was instantly hooked, then I worked my way back to Piper. Showing my age now!

Re: I've been bleating and babbling around the forums unregistered... Although it's been almost a month already, welcome to APFFN, SkyrimOrBust! Animals and Atom Heart Mother were the most difficult Pink Floyd albums for me. It took me many listening sessions in order to begin to enjoy them. They are still not my favourite ones, but I do like them now, especially the concept behind Animals, very Waterish if you know what I mean. Floydoid: Meddle is indeed one of my favourites. Echoes is such a masterpiece! IMHO, the best example of progressive rock EVER. ![]() I have a special fondness towards More and Ummagumma. There's just something about that Pink Floyd phases that I love. Anyway, welcome again and I hope you enjoy the website and the forums!

Re: I've been bleating and babbling around the forums unregistered... I still use Meddle as a benchmark for testing any new hifi system or soundcard, my first thoughts are always 'what will Meddle sound like on this?'. I too find AHM difficult, but find the album picks up once you get past the title track. Animals I can take or leave, with the exception of Sheep which is a masterpiece held together by Roger's best bass playing. Where Animals suffers is that it marks the start of Rick taking a creative back seat, his heart didn't seem to be in it any more, and for me his playing has always been essential to the classic atmospheric Floydian sound. No-one strokes the keys quite like Rick could.

Re: I've been bleating and babbling around the forums unregistered... I agree with you, Floydoid. Animals clearly shows that Roger was in command. Although I do appreciate his work very much (such as in The Wall, TFC and all his solo albums, especially Amused to Death, which I love), it's very different from the more typical floydian sound. Maybe not as much in The Wall, but definitely in Animals and TFC. For testing a new hifi system or configuration, I still prefer Pulse, basically because it's a more recent recording and mastering and because of QSound... But I can see what you mean when you say you use Meddle for that purpose.

Re: I've been bleating and babbling around the forums unregistered... I'm odd in that I prefer The Final Cut to The Wall, partly because it is a less rambling album. Amused to Death is one of the finest floydian solo albums, alongside Rick's Broken China, IMO.

Re: I've been bleating and babbling around the forums unregistered... Broken China tops the cake for me, AtD very close second, and Roger's stuff is also pretty decent... Anyways I have developed quite a taste for Ummagumma recently, especially The Narrow Way. I got it on Vinyl for 20 bucks, and even though for me the star is the live disc, the studio album is also damn good. Sysyphus makes me want to gouge someone's eye's out with a decorative spoon, though.

Re: I've been bleating and babbling around the forums unregistered... Roger's segment is the best on the Ummagumma studio album, but as you hint, the live disk is out of this world.

Re: I've been bleating and babbling around the forums unregistered... I agree. "Grantchester Meadows" is a masterpiece, although it is compensated by the dreadful "Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving With a Pict", which, IMHO, is just the worst Pink Floyd song (can it be even considered a song?). It even beats "Dogs of War", LOL! The Ummagumma studio album is one of my least favourites, though. The live album is, as y'all put it, out of this world indeed.

Re: I've been bleating and babbling around the forums unregistered... Several Species... is a piece of floydian humour which is lost on most fans, as are Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast & Seamus / Mademoiselle Nobs.

Re: I've been bleating and babbling around the forums unregistered... If I regarded it as a song then it would be the worst PF song I've ever heard. I don't though, I just kinda.... accept it. The Final Cut is a brilliant album but it's bloody depressing. I mean it ends with nuclear holocaust. Though, and I know it's an odd pick, but the title track is in my top 2-3 Floyd songs.

Re: I've been bleating and babbling around the forums unregistered... Then you shouldn't listen to When the Wind Blows... It's still a fine Waters piece of work, IMHO. I haven't been able to find the animated film to watch, though. It must be amazing, as depressive as films with that topic always are.
