US versions of "The Piper" & "Nice Pair" - mono tracks on stereo albums?

I'd love to ask of the information I can't find anywhere, even in discographies. I have searched this forum too and found nothing, so I dare to ask this question.
As we all know, the American release of "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" differed from English one and started with "See Emily Play". But I know in USA, like in UK, this album was in mono and stereo format available. And, as far as I know, "Emily"'s stereo mix was never made. So was it a mono track on stereo longplay, or was it in fake stereo, like on "Works"?
Very similar question I have about American version of "A Nice Pair". I found out the first pressing is said to contain mono version of "Flaming". Was it the same as on British mono LP, or some different mix?
Thank you in advance for any help.

All so-called stereo mixes of "Emily" are mastered from the mono mix. No one had a chance to prepare a true stereo version before the multitracks were lost.

As far as "Flaming" goes, I'm not sure about this but my guess would be that on the first pressing, they used the single version by mistake — which is the same as the mono LP version, but slightly shorter.

Yeah, that's what I know. But I'd love to find out which version was pressed on 1st American stereo edition of "The Piper". Fake stereo, or plain mono one?
(I found an information somewhere that it was fake stereo one, but the source isn't reliable, sayin' there was also "Arnold Layne" there, which isn't true.)

That's my guess too, thank you!

In those days, I'm pretty sure fake stereo was used more frequently than mono (whenever those were the only options available for LP mastering). Even the official Relics LP, which the Floyd themselves compiled, included fake stereo mixes before the modern remastered version reverted to mono ones.

Capitol's use of the mono "Flaming" was clearly a mistake... I suppose that, being in America, they never had master copies of the original Piper LP as it was issued in the UK, so to duplicate it for A Nice Pair they compiled a new master using whatever tapes they had available for each song. That would explain the use of different versions of some songs (including the live Ummagumma take of "Astronomy Domine"). Hence it would make sense if the single edit version of "Flaming" was the tape they initially accessed for the compilation, as the full stereo mix had never been released there before.

It was different back then... even within the same record company you could have discrepancies between what tapes were used for different pressings, since shipping master tapes around the world was so risky. Nowadays, you can have digitally-identical copies of anything you want released worldwide. Instantly!

Wow, I didn't know it, 'cause I've never heard vinyl version of "Relics". On CD "Arnold" and "Emily" are in mono, whereas "Paintbox", "Julia" and "Eugene" are included in evidently stereo mixes. I don't know if they were made in 60s, or specially for thic compilation. Only on "Works" I found the fake stereo version of "Emily" (phase-shifted mono recording) and maybe of "Arnold" too. I'm not shure, because the only song on this compilation which I used to listen more often than sporadically is "Embryo". I also don't know when this fake stereo versions wehe made.
Back to the topic. If you say they used fake stereo version of "Emily" on stereo issue of "Piper", you're probably right. A doubt remains because in 60s mono recordings happened to appear on stereo albums.

Yes... although, as you point out, even into the 80's with compilations like Works there were fake stereo mixes issued on official compilations.

It was a very surprising revelation in the most recent issue of Mojo magazine to read Nick Mason's comment that the next Pink Floyd release to receive the Immersion treatment might well be A Nice Pair.
