Things That Are Annoying Me About Pompeii

The thing that annoys me about it is that there isn't enough of it. This is some of their best stuff, I truly prefer watching this video over any of their others, and that includes The Wall.

its a video that was filmed in i believe 1972 but i could be wrong about the year. i hope it will be put on dvd soon.

I agree 100%. I love watching this video, always have always will. It could have been better with stuff like "Embryo" and "Fat Old Sun" and a few others, but I still think it's fantastic.

I the live footage was filmed in 71. The "Darkside" stuff was done in 72, but I could be wrong.

Yes... Pompeii is indeed the greatest Floyd video. The setting of an amphitheater amid volcanic ruins is possibly the best setting the Floyd has played in, ever.
I also dug the studio scenes, it was interesting to see the Floyd at work with one of their greatest albums.

LOL I guess you've never seen that Squarepusher music video, Come On My Selector... his name is Tom and he's very similar to Aphex Twin, what with the crazy beats and all. Anyway, in the video this big fat japanese guy's watching Tom being interviewed on Japanese TV and eating wasabi, and Tom says "Yeh I fink me favrite track's Come On My Selector." And the Japanese interviewer says (in Japanese) "How do you play all the instruments at the same time?" And Tom says something to the effect of "You don't understand anything, this is complete bullshit." And the wasabi guy laughs hysterically and there's this huge canned laughter on the TV... pretty funny...

Ahem. Yes. Anyway. Pompeii good. Pompeii on DVD better. We should start a letter-writing campaign.

Hey, here's a question...in the segment of "Careful With That Axe Eugene" nearer to the end, Waters makes some little noise and then jerks back from the mic very suddenly, and Wright gives him sort of a startled glance...wonder what happened there?

Also on the "Saucerful" track, when Gilmour's doing "Celestial Voices" I think, it seems like when footage in the arena is going on, the wind is blowing and his hair is all in his face, then when it cuts to the scene with them all bunched together his hair is flat...did they re-record that or anything? Just thought it odd.

Pompeii is an amazing video and a very good performance but it has... ahem... a bit of overdubs and studio work.

Any guesses on the head jerk...maybe he got some sort of static or electric shock...or he could just be weird?

We discussed this on another message board...our conclusion was that static built up in the mike, and it shocked him; that's something that can happen in a show. Given that's a rather sensitive area to be shocked (ever been shocked by someone giving you a kiss?), it's no wonder he jumped back and made a noise, and no wonder Mr. Wright thought he might've done something worse.

The 'mic shock' thing has happened to me. It sucks.

As for being shocked when kissed, that has never happened to me. On the other hand, I don't kiss people very often. But I'm not going to get onto that topic, at least not here.

Sorry to hear that, Shane. Both about the mic shock and non-kissing thing.

I actually have been shocked when kissing a person, and likewise whenever I came in contact with that person for an entire afternoon...quite odd.
