| Re: Things That Are Annoying Me About Pompeii actually, I have the directors cut edition, and in an interview with the director, he says that they ran a wire from the town hall in Pompeii. No kidding. Listen to it. (for the power) |

| Re: Things That Are Annoying Me About Pompeii top to bottom: Korg CX-3 - a modern digital Hammond simulator Roland XP-80 - synth/workstation Korg SP-200 - digital piano i use as a weighted controller for sounds from the computer and the XP-80 (it's own piano sound is unacceptably sucky, great action though for the price.) but enough about me... Hmm, i played the directors commentary but don't remember that comment. But maybe that's the case. I'll listen for it next time.

| Re: Things That Are Annoying Me About Pompeii yeah, he says something about loosing 3 days when they just get to Pompeii, looking for a power source. He then says on the 4th day the city was so nervous that they ran wire from the town hall. I'll find you the exact time in the dvd that he says it. |

| Re: Things That Are Annoying Me About Pompeii Quote:
The school I was at between 1979 - 1982 had a solar powered building which was built in the mid-sixties I believe, so solar power was being used in 1971... |

| Re: Things That Are Annoying Me About Pompeii In answer to your third question all the way back on page 1 Shane, I believe they are mics.

| Re: Things That Are Annoying Me About Pompeii The red things on the drums? That's called tape boys. (Not a lot of musicians in here, i can tell Drummers (especially rock drummers) usually want to dampen the tone of their toms and snare drum, cuz as they come from the factory they usually ring with a bit too much pure tone and take too long to die off. The rock drum sound requires more of a "thwack". Listen to The Band for an example of some of the thwackiest drum sounds in rock. I may also see what look to be bolts, held on with that tape. Again, simply something to dampen sound of the drums. Nothing magic, not solar powered moon-mics from planet Zeta Reticulon....

| Re: Things That Are Annoying Me About Pompeii I figured they were mufflers as well. Additionally, Nick's drums sound really good there - with just enough ring to crack through the mix. However, some people way over-do it - for instance, with Mick Woodmansey's drum sound on David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust. The toms sound so weak and un-inspiring. Makes him sound like a robot, truth be told. Last edited by Shane G. : 01-01-2004 at 12:23 AM. |

| Re: Things That Are Annoying Me About Pompeii Listen to the album of the same name... it sounds like that throughout the whole thing. It ruined 'Moonage Daydream'. |

| Re: Things That Are Annoying Me About Pompeii I have the album. I love the drums on Five Years, one of the simplest, but best drum rhythms ever IMO. Nothing could ruin Moonage Daydream for me...

| Re: Things That Are Annoying Me About Pompeii It's one of my favorite records. Still, one picks out things that could have been changed to make the record all the more better - 'Moonage Daydream' is a great song indeed, but I think it would have had a more atmospheric feel to it if they would have added some reverb to the drums, or hadn't muffled the toms nearly as much as they did. |

| Re: Things That Are Annoying Me About Pompeii That's true I suppose. Bowie played in Ireland not so long ago for a new video or something. Apparently he was almost scared by the fanaticism of the crowd. And I didn't go cos I said to myself, "He'll only play the new stuff, that's all he ever does these days." He played ALL the old stuff.
