Cool Raving and Drooling

Hello everyone... I'm from Canada and this is my first post here. I was just looking on the official pinkfloyd.co.uk website (which is pretty damn cool) and I saw James Guthrie's comments about the song compilation process. He mentioned 20 songs that were considered for the Echoes compilation, but didn't make it. I thought it would be cool to compile them into an "Echoes II" using his choices. So here's "Echoes II: Raving and Drooling." You can try it out yourself with a crossfader and some free time.

Disc One
Speak to Me (Mason)
Breathe (Waters/Gilmour/Wright)
Interstellar Overdrive (Barrett/Waters/Wright/Mason)
Young Lust (Waters/Gilmour)
Careful With That Axe, Eugene (Waters/Wright/Mason/Gilmour)
Mother (Waters)
Your Possible Pasts (Waters)
Fearless (Gilmour/Waters)
Fat Old Sun (Gilmour)
The Gunner's Dream (Waters)
Atom Heart Mother (edit) (Mason/Gilmour/Waters/Wright/Geesin)
63:02

Disc Two
If (Waters)
Grantchester Meadows (Waters)
Paranoid Eyes (Waters)
The Scarecrow (Barrett)
Dogs (edit) (Waters/Gilmour)
San Tropez (Waters)
Nobody Home (Waters)
Chapter 24 (Barrett)
A Saucerful of Secrets (Waters/Wright/Mason/Gilmour)
Brain Damage (Waters)
Eclipse (Waters)
63:10

That would be good actually... the thing that botherd me most about Echoes was that there was nothing from AHM in. I would have taken out Sorrow and the fletcher memorial home for some better songs but the band seem to hate AHM.

You seem to have forgotten 'More' and 'Obscured by Clouds'. Im starting to think you may be from the Floyd camp since they always do the same.

i think that the first echoes. is for people who just started liking PF... like me...
im new at the PF phenomenon, i started likeing them from october....
the disk helped me to know songs that i didnt know b4...
i knew 13 songs from the album...
now i know all and own a lot of their albums.
if echoes 2 will b realesed out... i think that it would b ment for people like u (and like me now). it would b a disk that will more reflect their true nature... the 70's
in the first echoes there were 4 songs from TDB 2 from AMLoR this time they will switch them with songs from meddle, ummagumma and of course AHM.

Hmmm. If we could ditch the utterly wretched sorrow and replace it with a couple of shiny brights from OBC or Relics and, quite honestly, ditch anything post-Wall in favour of far better, braver material from the early 70's. And 'See Emily Play' is soo dull and overexposed within the confines of the Floyd, that I can't honestly say I'd want to hear it again. The Fletcher Memorial Home, as I've observed before, has possibly the worst drum sound in rock (aside from Obituary's first album) and is significant for having one of Gilmour's most blatantly faxed in solos this side of all the others he's squeeeezed out since.

There. That wasn't too difficult, now. Was it?

Sorry for not including any soundtrack songs... I was just trying to use tracks from Guthrie's list of "also-rans" (http://www.pinkfloyd.co.uk/ae/james.html) to ensure that they were all tracks the Floyd had picked themselves.

I've revised the tracklisting to include tracks from the soundtracks, but ONLY those picked by the Floyd for their previous compilations (plus Crumbling Land so we can have SOMETHING from Zabriskie Point). I've now added tracks from Works and Relics, but kept Speak To Me because part of it is on Works.

I also kept A Saucerful of Secrets, if only to even out the lengths of discs 1 and 2. And yes, disc two is almost ALL Waters compositions. That's just the way the tracks fit together, I didn't intend for that to happen.

Here it is, another 28 tracks... Raving And Drooling mkII.

Disc One
Speak to Me (Mason)
Breathe (Waters/Gilmour/Wright)
(The last chord is crossfaded with the beginning of the mono version of IO)
Interstellar Overdrive (Barrett/Waters/Wright/Mason)
Young Lust (Waters/Gilmour)
(This is the "single" version of YL which doesn't fade out with the phone call at the end)
The Nile Song (Waters)
Embryo (Waters)
Careful With That Axe, Eugene (Waters/Wright/Mason/Gilmour)
Mother (Waters)
(Mother and Careful fit together because they have the exhalation of breath at their respective beginnings and endings)
Your Possible Pasts (Waters)
Crumbling Land (Waters/Wright/Mason/Gilmour)
Fearless (Gilmour/Waters)
Fat Old Sun (Gilmour)
The Gunner's Dream (Waters)
Atom Heart Mother (edit) (Mason/Gilmour/Waters/Wright/Geesin)
75:12

Disc Two
If (Waters)
Cirrus Minor (Waters)
Grantchester Meadows (Waters)
(Of course, CM and GM fit because of the birdsong... also, GM has footsteps at the end, and PE has footsteps at the beginning. I would fade it out before the "Oi!")
Paranoid Eyes (Waters)
The Scarecrow (Barrett)
Dogs (Waters/Gilmour)
San Tropez (Waters)
Biding My Time (Waters)
Free Four (Waters)
Nobody Home (Waters)
Chapter 24 (Barrett)
A Saucerful of Secrets (Waters/Gilmour/Mason/Wright)
(Pompeii rendition)
Brain Damage (Waters)
Eclipse (Waters)
77:59

Nice, Botley.

I've got a question for ya - how would you edit Atom Heart Mother and Dogs? What sections would you take out?

They missed out The Final Cut title song on Echoes, I love it, it has a Bruce Springsteen - Philadelphia FEELING to it.

I took out Mind Your Throats Please entirely... just joined up the end of Funky Dung with the beginning of Remergence. I also took out a few repetitions here and there, like they did to Echoes on Echoes, really just so I could squeeze the thing into 79 minutes.

Soon I'll be sharing the whole thing in SHN format with full artwork on the PiNkRoIoShN hub on DirectConnect.
