Like I've stated before...
I really like "Grand Viziers". It shows that Nick Mason is a wizard at tape effects, and also a good drummer.
I've listened to "Sysiphus" (sic.?) once or twice. I really can't remember much about it.

I like this track, actually, because it shows the Floyd at their experimental best.

In response to Thorin13's two posts...
1. I think Nick Mason is a good drummer... watching "Echoes" on Pompeii should prove this. If it's the tape editing that you're about, then let me explain.
I remember reading that Nick Mason was a little pissed off at the Abbey Road sound engineers, because they wore white coats and acted snobbish toward the various people at Abbey Road. Mason said that he got really annoyed once, because they "wouldn't even let me edit my own tapes".
And the credit of 'tape effects' on DSotM made me think that he did the tape editing on "Grand Vizier's" as well... you know, the chings, backwards stuff, and all that before the drum solo. If he didn't... well... I didn't know that! (j/k)
As for me putting "PowR TocH" on this thread... I said in that original post that I didn't have enough 'hated Floyd instrumentals' to make a top 5 list. Then I proceeded to explain the two songs that annoyed me, however in very small ways; "PowR TocH" and "More Blues".
I hope this doesen't seem to long-winded... but I like to explain myself!

-Shane

"More Blues: I like the blues just as much as the next guy (the album of my stuff I'm working on right now contains an eight minute blues song), but I don't like how the rhythm section in the Floyd track fades up and down."

"What were they thinking?"

Experimenting? Hoping stoners might get off on the music if, as opinion has it, the film wasn't up to much? To see what THIS knob does?

I'm an avid fan of MORE, and More Blues, since it was one of my early PF purchases - I thought it damned odd in comparison to my other PF albums, but a refreshing new sample of their talents.

Floyd on!

It was the second PF album I owned on vinyl... I dig it a lot. It does show a lot of their talents.

Yeah, I have to admit that I have done some crazy stuff to my own music in the name of experimentation... like backwards ring modulated "Wayne's World" sound samples.

And, if I'm not mistaken, Barrett Fan just called me 'silly'!

I'm kinda regretting saying anything at all...

I'm pleased to see that no-one has suggested Terminal Frost as one of the worst (though maybe I spoke too soon).

As for the worst though, I'd have to say the 60s ones. I don't hate them but they are forgettable in my mind. And not a patch on what they could do later.

Red Bull gives you wings but Terminal Frost kicks ass,

Lightbulb

I actually like the variety of sounds in Quicksilver, but it's too bad it's so boring and without any dynamism.
But I didn't include it in my Top 5 worst instrumentals...

The 5 Worst Instrumentals

Here are the five Pink Floyd instrumentals that, in my opinion, the band could have done a little better in writing, recording, etcetera.

5. Interstellar Overdrive
4. The Narrow Way, Parts 1-2
3. Dramatic Theme
2. Sysyphus, Part 3
1. Party Sequence
