Did he REALLY mean...

I admit the title of Mr. Wright's first solo album is a bit of an attention-getter!

I'm curious...do you think he was intentionally going for the double entendre? Something tells me he was. He may be quiet MOST of the time--but remember, this is the guy that wore an outfit to one photo shoot that looked like a cross between chain mail and Egyptian jewelery!

Seriously, though...did the phrase always have that meaning? Or did it (for a time) only mean that in America?

Obvious, I think.

I'm neither English nor American, but it's quite safe to assume he DID go for the double-entendre.
In fact before finding out about his boats and stuff I used to think the title was solely referring to that!

I just remembered being a bit surprised...thinking it seemed a bit out-of-character for him.

But I guess "boys will be boys", huh? I'm convinced. They ALL have dirty minds. EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM.

BTW, you're from Italy, correct?

That phrase has always had the same conotation here in the UK as far as I'm aware , there's no way he would have used it without being aware of the implication.

Saucy devil !

Ah, OK...as I said, not being from the UK I didn't know for sure if it carried that meaning or not.

But see my comments above about the male gender and their uniformly sick minds...

Nowhere around there; it's just another pun from that album, one that I thought would make a cute response to the "where from" question.

That may be either a beautiful poetry expression or a remembrance of Wright's puberty...

Rick Wright: "The title? That's a funny one. "Wet" because the record has a sort of watery feel to it. Some of Floyd does as well. "Dream" - well there's a lot of things in the songs where I'm questioning where my roots are, where i want to live, whether i should be in England. (...) So really, it's not a wet dream, it's just a play on the words. It may have been a mistake to call it that, but I couldn't get it out of my mind. It's hard to say why, really." (1978)

Let's see...because maybe...

...he's MALE?

Seriously, though, that's a good find, Yannis! Thanks for the quote. It really is an interesting reflection on where he was at that stage in his life.

I prefer to just think of it as any other male whose mind is in the gutter would think about it, I mean, with that album name and the song up the khyber I am in heaven

Well, I think the answer (from what he said) seems to be this...he likes to play with words a lot. And being a guy--guess what came to mind?

I wonder if he blushes now when he thinks about that title?

BTW, like I said, it's not the only pun on there: "Mediterannean C"!

Oh, and here's a question for any sailing buffs who might be on this forum. I've wondered about the song "Cat Cruise", and where it gets its title. Is "cat" short for "catamaran", in sailors' terminology? Maybe he's telling us what kind of boat he's sailing on?

Any takers?

It does mean catamaran. I found out in the oddest possible way.
