"What Roger Wants"

"a. WHAT ROGER WANTS b. THE HYPOCRITE'S DREAM c. LIFE MASKED SHEEP d. POEM FOR INCURABLE TYRANTS" a blasphemous poem by Monty Syracuse

Harmlessly passing your time in the grassland away
Ignoring only your foes who work it out and care
You'd better watch out
You better have no doubt
I've looked over Cambridge and I've seen
It's part of the Hypocrite's dream

What do you get for ignoring the things others feel?
Meek and obedient,
You follow ol' Roger
Down well trodden issues
His thoughts and his words to quote and steal.
What a surprise!
The look of hypnotic glare in his eyes!
Now things are really what they seem
No! It's old pink's scream!

Deaf, dumb, and blind, you just keep on pretending...

Roger Waters is my shepered, I shall not want
He makes me down to lie
When he sneers I laugh, when he mourns I cry.
The church is his enemy and mine, hate of iron bell's toll.
Hear him protest the world's hate and corruption in high places
Meanwhile we'll spit on Mary Whitehouse,
And all her censor's graces.
He converteth me to a million lies in laces
For lo, politicians hath greater power
But Roger hath greater hunger,
He shuns Reagan's and Thatcher's lies
But when cometh the lowly guitarists
Roger paints his flowers, and claims he wrote it all
He cannot acknowledge input even for "Another Brick in the Wall."
He will blast the church and the followers of anyone but him.
Because, foe and friend, we were all equal in the end.
Through great dedication,
We are offended
We know the religious don't think for themselves
Meanwhile we wait for Roger's radio waves
So we know what to feel
We'll master the art of hypocrisy
And make the headcases' eyes water.

Raving and drooling, we paid for his records so keen
Wave upon wave of demented avengers of Eric Fletcher
March cheerfully out of obscurity into the Hypocrite's dream.

Have you heard the news?
Pink Floyd is dead!
You better stay home and do as you're told
'Cause what Roger wants, he gets its weight in gold!

BRILLIANT! I like it.

Sums up everything I think about (hypocrite-Socialist, dictator, unreasonable b*****d) Rog.

Red Bull gives you wings but Roger's antiwar propaganda just shoots them down again so what's the point,

He was certainly quite a snot, especially around the time of The Wall. But he's not all bad.

Re: "What Roger Wants"

Well maybe he isn't but I have a very intense hatred for him for no apparent reason (all I know is that it definitely isn't due to the fact that he broke up PF, much as I hate him for that) and every time I see him I just want to hit him one.

Mind you I don't like Gilmour much either but the hatred there is more of a dislike (why can't I be as charismatic as him? Thats the main reason I am not too hotshot on him), but I have to admit I do have some sort of grudging admiration for him to carry on the name of PF against Rog's legal wrangling.

Still enough from me

Re: "What Roger Wants"

Well, I'm sure you can see why I have a dislike for him (take note of my name! ). I do, however, respect his solo work quite a bit. I also can't forget that he sent me an autographed photo in response to a letter--postmarked 14 September 2001. He did not have to do that, especially at that time. It's a strange duality--to respect and despise at once.

As for Mr. Gilmour, I've got kind of an admiration for him; he is my inspiration for taking up the guitar, an instrument I wouldn't have bothered with if not for him. I do not have such charisma, either...but I would not be comfortable with it, to be honest. I'd rather not be the centre of attention all the time. But I also think he was right to do what he did (continue PF). So I have no dislike for him.

--Plagiarism alert! --

Rog shoots down your wings, but Richard mends them, so don't give up so fast.

--End plagiarism--

Re: "What Roger Wants"

I too must admit to an unreasonable dislike of Roger , probably stemming from when he took his bass and his lyrics and went off in a huff after suffering his ego explosion , I also feel a vaguely shameful sense of gratification that his solo work is a bit pants......not as clever as you thought you were , eh Rog?

However also I also think Gilmour comes across as a bit posh , pompous and just too damn infuriatingly cagey (has he ever given a straight answer to a question??) , Nick is just too bloody nice and Rick is....well Rick is just Rick!

Good job they can all play a bit

Right then , who can I diss next..........

Re: "What Roger Wants"

Hm...although musically weak compared to the full Floyd, I think The Final Cut, Radio KAOS and Amused to Death are quite respectable. Pros and Cons and In the Flesh I don't care for so much...but I think I will definitely buy his next studio album; I do look forward to that.

Mr. Mason strikes me as kind of sarcastic sometimes.

"And Rick is...well, Rick is just Rick!"

SUCH descriptive powers! He strikes me as a nice, quiet gentleman.

Re: "What Roger Wants"

Is it possible for 'ol Nick to be too nice?
Sometimes he is my favorite member of the Floyd. I don't know why, but he seems like he feels as if he is above all the bickering and fighting between David and Roger.
Besides, he's funny and a damn good drummer!
Roger, in my book, is a good songwriter, but an undenialbly (sic) mean old man. It did seem kinda pompous for Rog to suddenly stomp off to his own solo stuff, which didn't turn out very good.
David seems to be a cool guy.
And Richard is, of course, Richard: nice, quiet, doesen't argue... keeps his opinion to himself.

Re: "What Roger Wants"

Although I've seen Mr. Wright say something quite cutting about Mr. Waters on one occasion (something about how he'd work with the guy if he came back as a new person, charming, nice, and with good ideas!!!). But I respect him because--for the most part--he doesn't get into the mudslinging.

I think the worst of the battle is between Mr. Gilmour and Mr. Waters. The other two were certainly involved...I think they got hurt, too. But I think they do fight less (though Mr. Mason sometimes has used his sharp tongue on the combatants).

Re: "What Roger Wants"

I can understand Nick using his 'sharp' tongue... from what I understand, Roger and Nick were close.
Wasen't Nick godfather to one of Roger's children?
The split must have felt bad for one of them...

Anyway, I respect Roger because he seems like a very smart, well-spoken man. I haven't called him a hypocrite yet, because I have seen nothing that he was exactly hypocritical about. I just believe that he was the classic all-around a**hole, with really strong views of various things, that he wasn't afraid to spout at any time he wished. Watching him in the Pompeii studio scenes shows that he has very hard views, concerning the 'great economic collapse', the secong string of pressings of Obscured by Clouds ("If you find sibalinces on the second string of pressings, you've got an extremely overactive imagination... because they're not there."), and even the tone of David's guitar ("toppy").
Obviously, he was a mean guy, with no feelings for other people's emotions.
But I don't think he's exactly hypocritical, unless someone wants to give me an incident or two.

Re: "What Roger Wants"

First, let me say that I believe no one here knows truly went on, let alone who is telling the truth about what. Second, I think that to get involved in the inner dealings of a band, and to say such and such a person is an asshole when you have never met siad person, is beyond the rights of a fan.

With that said, let me just say that I know someone who went backstage to meet Rog in '99, and he claims that beyond the obligatory hello, Rog never spoke to himk the whole night.

Other than that, I have no opinion on Rog, other than in interviews I have read or watched he seems a bit pompous, he wasn't that bad in Pompeii, simply responding to criticism of the band, as band leaders are supposed to do.

Floydwright, your endless Rick Wright *sslicking is nearly a treat, but its really a cry.

Re: "What Roger Wants"

First, I never said that Roger was indeed and without doubt an a**hole. Note that I said I believed he was one of those kinds of people, not saying that he was. I even said that I respected him. Of course, I can't form a true opinion of him (having never met him).
I will admit, I am kind of like the way Roger acts in Pompeii, or anywhere else (at least according to stories I've heard). I also have strong views, which I will say without regard to someone's feelings. Of course, I do care about people's feelings... this is why I try to actually hold my tongue in check these days when I talk to my personal freinds. I used to be mean. Now, instead of doing destructive criticism, I really try to be thoughtful.
At least I didn't call him hypocritical without evidence, eh?

Re: "What Roger Wants"

NNJ--you'll notice I'm not the one who goes around calling Mr. Waters an ***hole...

I insist on fairness for HIM, too, and I think his solo work is respectable, and he has improved some, even if I would probably not call him a friend if I were to know him.

Re: "What Roger Wants"

Can I just point out that my tongue was firmly in my cheek with my "descriptions" of Dave , Nick and Rick !!!

Roger however is a different matter , although to be fair he does seem to have mellowed with age.
