"Run Like Hell (Session Musicians)"

"Run Like Hell (Session Musician)" by Monty Syracuse

Run...run...run...run...run...run...run...run...

You better snatch your paycheck and blend in with the guys
With their stop and go tunes and covered black eyes
Put on a genuine forced smile
And play a supporting part
But your efforts are in tatters as the Billboard chart shatters
'Cause that's what Mr. Waters takes credit for!
You better run!

Run...run...run...run...run...run...run...run...

You better learn how to play
Never defend your rights
Keep your betrayed feelings deep inside
And if your name is Richard Wright
You'd better get the hell out of sight
And if Roger catches you in the studio trying to use the name
He's gonna take you straight to court and play a copyright game
You better run!

By Monty Syracuse. Used without permission. I mean you know, "If I'm painting a portrait of flowers, I don't want other people looking over my shoulder and telling me how to do it."

IMHO, if they'd been about money, they could be on a permanent cycle of album one year, tour the next. I think a lot of people would really like it. But I think they're wanting to retire and spend time with their families.

As for Mr. Wright--he DID get his feelings out in writing. I suppose you never guessed what parts of Wet Dream were referring to. Maybe it's not the same feelings YOU would have in that situation, but then, everyone is different and has a right to their unique disposition. All I can say is that I have a fairly good understanding of the reactions to conflict I hear on that album. It doesn't make me any less of a person to be of a nature that allows me to identify with that. It just means my strengths and my particular struggles are different than yours might be. And YES, sometimes assertiveness IS a struggle for me.

Guess what? Once, I had someone who treated me like garbage for months--slammed doors in my face, yelled at me, the whole nine yards. I'd made a few minor mistakes, but it didn't warrant the treatment I was getting. I tried being gracious at first, because some people react well to politeness--it kind of smooths away resentment for some. But it wasn't working. I tried keeping out of her way, but it eventually became too much to do that; I was in a situation where I could not avoid this person. When I finally DID have to confront her, guess what? I ALMOST FAINTED IN FRONT OF HER!!! Literally! How's THAT for assertive?

And as for why the other two did not stand up and say something, I am rather ticked at them for that as well, and fully agree that was wrong. I believe that friendship demands that you stand with those you call friends. And yes...they fell quite short of the mark on that duty. But in that case, I've forgiven it. The difference there is it seems to me they must've settled it with Mr. Wright, because I've not heard mention on anyone's part of ill feelings among the three.

But let's please not get into calling some people superior and some inferior. All of us have our own particular gifts and talents, and one is not more valuable than the other. I write poetry, for instance, but my musical talent is somewhat less. And I am a really crappy athlete--last in my gym class, when I was younger. So maybe one has the lyrical talent, but others have different talents: musical composition, mastery of the guitar, and so on. They're no less worthy than Mr. Waters. They have their own talents which make them worthy musicians in their own right.

One last point, Sarah. Did you notice the author's name before you opened this post? I thought you were trying to change the way you approached things...after the last poem this person wrote, I guess I'd thought you'd choose not to comment. That probably would've been the better thing to do.

I think Monty deserves a little FloydWright criticism, too. In all fairness. I mean, what does he think the pink floyd story is? Paul McCartney wrote half the beatles songs (almost) and he would never go on as the beatles without Lennon...nevermind putting an extremely important member of the band down as a credit stealing jerk and trying to re-write history to diminish his role. You should straighten these people out on the history of floyd. Roger Daltrey was a key component in the Who's sound but what an outrage if he wanted to carry on without Townshend as the Who! C'mon.

1- Barrett wrote - almost - ALL of the PF songs when they decided to go on without him

2- Waters left by his own will

3- They decided to go on without Barrett, they decided to go on without Wright (who is as important as Waters IMO), they decided to go on without Waters. Simple. It's always been in Pink Floyd history. Waters was important but he wasn't more irreplaceable than anyone else, like it or not.

What is wrong with you people?

I have to agree with Sarah here in saying that Floyd with Roger were dismal as was Floyd without Wright. Waters was very important to Floyd if the last two albums are anything to go by.

cheers
