| I was just thinking how refreshing it was to read a thread that hasn't been corrupted. I "thought" too soon apparently. Somewhere in the world a village is missing its idiot.

| Stratman - not that he needs the cash, but I'm sure you're about right. Driven - it's cool; the fine threads of rock's rich tapestry just ain't some people's cup of tea. Alas, all that effort and so little result ...

| I may be wrong on this but i read once that Strats were numbered randomly. This could very well be the 1st Strat ever made. Then again it could be a randomly numbered Strat. Please dont hold this to me because im probably wrong. |

| Nah won't hold it against you mate. I've searched high and low on the internet for that article which discussed #001, but to no avail. It came out shortly after the Dvision Bell tour. Like I said before I'm pretty sure this article said #001 was intended to be a special strat, and was made very early on in the piece. I might go and have another look for that article.

| Couldn't find the interview. I think it was in "Guitar World" and their archives don't go back that far. I did find this: "Vintage guitar experts feel the Stratocaster was created between March & May 1954 though the guitar is dated June 1954 at the bottom of the neck. Those who have seen the guitar feel it was a custom order from the Fullerton, California shop. The guitar has an unusual look. The finish appears to be a faded Olympic White. The pickguard is anodized gold, which makes it different from typical Stratocasters - the pickguard is darker than the finish on the body. The guitar also has a customized gold plated tremolo and output jack. The tuners are standard chrome. The pickup covers, volume and tone knobs remain white. They haven't yellowed over the years. This guitar was originally owned by Seymour Duncan and sold to Pink Floyd's main equipment coordinator and guitar technician Phil Taylor for the meager sum of $900 in the early 70's. David Gilmour purchased the guitar in the late 70's for an unknown sum that allowed Taylor to purchase a house soon afterwards."

| Wow it realy does sound like it was a special order strat. Those are some unusal combinations on a guitar but i have seen pictures of it an it does look quite well infact. no aging on the pickup covers? wow that shows this guitar must really have been taken care of over the years. |

| I did have a poster of the guitar here somewhere. It was the first Strat to have a serial number. It isn't the first Strat. There were several batches made before this guitar. The fact that Gilmour owns it and that it is number 1 means it is worth a lot of money but probably not as much as a 59 sunburst LP. |

| I think 0001 was first strat produced by the Fender custom shop. Here is a picture & more info on it. http://home.tampabay.rr.com/richm/ggg9907.htm

| I always thought his #0001 Strat was red. I've always found his 'trademark look' to be holding a red Strat. Oh well |
