I don't think a 7-figure sum would secure it since David is quoted as saying it isn't up for sale, and it's never likely he'll need the money, so it's priceless.

Wouldn't B.B. King's "Lucille" or an original Les Paul regularly played by the man himself also be in that category?

BoaB - yup - Lucille would be in that category, too (along with a few other guitars I imagine)

Wouldn't it be something to own a piece of rock history like these guitars?

Clapton's "Blackie" pulled in $959,500 at the Crossroads Acution.
SRV's "Lenny" was second at $623,500.

Gibson did reissue Jimmy's Les Paul. They made 25 of them. All of which were played and signed by Mr. Page himself. One of them sold for$55,000. There will be second and third versions of the guitar. As far as I know they will not be Signed or Played.

Dave's 001 Strat is priceless, but I would rather get my hands on Syd's Esquire Tele.

From the All Strat website:

Dave Gilmour's "001" Strat
Pink Floyd guitarist Dave Gilmour has long been associated with the Stratocaster. Numerous classic Pink Floyd albums like Dark Side Of The Moon and Wish You Were Here bear the Strat's unmistakeable tone on almost every track.

Not the First Strat
Undoubtedly the jewel in Gilmour's collection is his white 1954 Stratocaster - serial number 001. Despite the impressive serial number, it's not the first Stratocaster built, but because of the date on the neck joint, it's known to be one of the earliest still in existence. This is because Strats first started being built between March and May of '54, and this one is dated June '54. It was probably specially built for a customer, since it has some custom features, such as an unusual custom colour finish, non-standard gold plating on hardware and a one of a kind serial number.

Origins
This 'numero uno' Strat was once owned by guitar string entrepreneur, Ernie Ball, who sold it to a member of Gilmour's crew. Gilmour bought it from the crew member in the early eighties for an undisclosed (i.e. enormous) sum. Gilmour himself says, "Some guitars make everyone sound the same. Others tend to emphasize the differences-which this one does. I haven't got a clue what it's worth. But it's not for sale.

It's a 1954 Strat...sure it's expensive...as for the serial number, is nice to have the number 1, huh? I wonder how much it costs a 1954 Strat undated, like those made between March and May of '54...

Saludos.
