Make me PF dork #2, cause I did the same thing. Buster Poindexter used to say "HOT HOT HOT" Now he says "Do you want fries with that? Careful, that coffee is HOT HOT HOT."

If seeing Dave on SNL did anything it reminded me that he is a good musician, even if his composing and lyric writing aren't what they could be.

I'd say Mr. Gilmour and Mr. Mason are performers and the RW's are composers, one of music, and one of lyrics. And as odd as it may seem, Mr. Barrett was the most balanced one...he seemed to have all three talents in equal measure, until circumstances ended that.

And both are necessary talents to a band--and also, ALL of them have SOME measure of both talents. I'm just going with greatest strength.

So you enjoyed those scales Gilmour through over that funky chord progression, aye?
A friend of mine who watched that with me thought it was another reason Waters was right. I was indifferent.

In case anyone cares or didn't know, Buster Poindexter is actually David Johansen the ex new york dolls singer. Big deal, I know.

It's like trying to forget a nightmare that was really disturbing.

Burning Bridges

Burning Bridges - “Thoughts of adventure.”

This is the first of a few leisurely paced tracks on OBC, bringing to mind the exciting and equally frightening prospect of “leaving it all behind” to start anew in some strange, fascinating place; very much within my personal experience. Also reminded of the long languid, and probably quite steamy river trip in Heart of Darkness – “magic visions stirring…flames burn in her eyes”

Both David and Rick sing on this track, but more of Rick’s vocals are present than David’s, or so it seems to me. Luckily, this is early enough in the PF career when Rick’s singing was not unpleasant. All the vocals as well as the guitar keyboard solos are all evocative of a lazy Sunday afternoon in the long grass.

A very soft and mellow musical trip it is indeed. Not my favourite track, but much to commend it and reveals again, the burgeoning genius about to be released upon the world.

BoaB rating: 7.5/10

I love that track...I can't quite hit the low notes on Mr. Wright's part, but I'm working on it. I'm a first soprano, so any broadening of my vocal range has to be in the other direction. The more versatile my singing, the better (IMHO).

As for "unpleasant" RWr-vocals, I can't name an example, personally...

But back to "Burning Bridges". That and "Mudmen" are my favourites.

Having recently re-discovered this CD while making my definitive Echoes II tracklisting (see Us&Them forum), I have to say Free Four.

It's a pretty tough one, it has to be observed.

Such a wealth,

Sounds like one of those things that comes down to individual taste.

Meaning no offence to Mr. Barrett, sometimes there are songs where I find his vocals a bit abrasive--but that's just a matter of taste.

Whenever the vocals in a PF song get too "abrasive", I EQ them out and just listen to the music.

You can actually remove the vocal track on a stereo without mangling everything else?

On some songs, yes. It helps if you have a good EQ setup and know how to use the "OOPS" stereo effect, too.
