I'd say that's fair. Jimi was a big influence on Stevie and I think SRV picked up Jimi's "fallen baton" (if you will) and carried it. I think when SRV died, that is the only time I've felt a personal loss with the death of a celebrity...man, think of the great stuff we'd all have in our CD libraries today if SRV and Jimi had not been taken so young.

Thanks, bro... Y'know, talkin' about SRV and the "baton" concept, I heard some stuff about Kenny Wayne Sheppard stepping up to fill his shoes(I don't think so), but THE guy who has a chance to really "pick up the baton" is Doyle Bramhall II---the guitar player that Roger hired to play the Gilmour stuff in his In The Flesh? Live tour.
Doyle is a Texas boy (Austin) who's dad is a musician/songwriter who played with and wrote for both SRV and Jimmy V's bands in the eighties. Doyle was back-up guitarist in Jimmy V's Fab T-Birds when he was 16. He also played live gigs with SRV.
He has that same aura about him, probably cause he looks a little like SRV and dresses with the same TexMex clothing and jewelry, although I'm sure he's NOT trying to impersonate SRV.
Definitely someone to keep an eye on.

INDEED!!

Doyle even gave Mr. "Slowhand" lessons on the guitar when Clapton couldn't figure out how to play some of Doyle's tunes. You know you gotta be good when Eric Clapton calls you up to learn how to play your songs!!

So true! I know Doyle played with Eric on "Reptile" and "Riding With The King"....and he just nailed Gilmours parts on the In The Flesh Live tour. He's impressive.

Put simply, you take a strat and low the tone. Plug it into a bit of a worn tube amp, but not directly. Throw in a compressor, an ok one, and turn all of it up, but not all the way up. Make sure the gain is on on the amp, again, up but not all the way. Then you should have a creamy Dave Gilmour sound. Experiment with the 5-way pickup selector to customize it - Have it your way!

Then you should be able to present to your audience the bargain version of Pink Floyd.

Always keep it simple. If you're not Pink Floyd, nobody's gonna care wether you sound just like them or not. I know and I'm not even 15.
Signed

I'm kind of confused, are we talking about the next to carry the torch of hendrix (his tone, style, sensibilities in his lines) or just someone who is young and yet very talented? If it is the latter, then I would have to recommend a guy named Derek Trucks, a fantastic slide player, and I recommend his album Joyful Noise to anyone willing to give it a listen....
Just my 2 cents.
