Exclamation Theory (or prophecy...) of Pink Floyd in 2003

Pink Floyd fans of all ethnicity, sexes, and generations,
This is my second post altogether, and by far the greatest of ideas. I've read the negativity and the hopes of there ever being a Pink Floyd tour, album, or even a Pink Floyd reunion tour with an open mind. However, it has been several months since I've felt something, or moreso had a vision. Keep this post in mind with all of your hearts and hold it with some blind faith. But it is that hope that can keep us loving Floyd more and more.

It all began early in the second semester of my first year of college. I've been working hard on a research paper about the changes of leadership and the musical influences throughout Floyd's immaculate reign of the pop charts. Anyways, while I was half-asleep in bed in my dorm, listening to the local rock radio station 105.9 The Rock, I heard a major announcement over the news. The words that caught my attention were "Former bassist of Pink Floyd, Roger Waters..." I felt that was enough to get out of bed and turn the volume slightly higher. The annoucement continued saying that "Roger Waters had an unexpected accounter by Nick Mason, and they talked for hours about old times. Roger's commented on deciding to bury the bone and let by gones be by gones and begin a new friendship with the band." I literally ran throught the dorm in my boxers and yelled that Waters and Floyd aren't mad each other anymore."

Waters and Floyd, friends, too good to be true. And I began to think about Floyd, their future, and what could be instore for us. I remembered what Mason said about Floyd more than likely ever getting back together again (I read it from this sight in the news section) and I remember such comments by David Gilmour saying "The only reason that such bands as The Eagles ever got back together again was because they needed the money. As you can see, I'm already pretty wealthy." And I remember someone saying that Gilmour said that Floyd "was getting too old to tour again." However, I got a strange feeling and that something in me told me that Floyd will get together again...not soon, but late 2003. I couldn't believe it, but it came back to me again. What made things more interesting was that someone on here made the outrageous claim that he heard Floyd would reunite in 2003, but that was shot-down by negativity and pessimism, like Mason.

Yet, the thought still remains, and even grows stronger. As for Gilmour's claim of being too old, remember that Waters is still touring the world, and he's slightly older than most of them. I believe that all of these negative words said by Floyd is just a diversion. I know how Pink Floyd loves their fans, simply by reading dozens of interviews by the band. Without the fans, Floyd might not have succeeded as long as they have. There have been many instances where Floyd was about to quit (especially after having lost Barrett, and the management; the heated court battle; etc.)

To make a long story short, here is what I believe whole heartedly Floyd will do. As soon as Waters finishes his world tour, they will gather and collaborate on a final album. The endall album of course. And Floyd will remain very secretive about this for a year or more. But don't lose faith, they will come back, the full band together, for one final world tour. I only hope that Bob Ezrin, Michael Kamen, and Storm Thorgerson will help the band out again. And maybe even Snowy White (guitarist for Waters and one of the members of the Surogate Band) will help out as well. And don't think that Floyd knows they cannot leave without a grand finale; Echoes may be a great album, but fails to have the clench that the band's grand design has. Remember people, Floyd loves its fans, and will not leave them hungry for long.

God bless and shine on,
lucifersam (lucifersam_radio@pinkfloydfan.net)

I dunno...

What I expect (and will actually be quite happy with) are three solo albums: by Mr. Gilmour and the RW's. Not all of them necessarily in '03, but I think there'll be one more from each.

Lucifersamradio, I hope you're a prophet.

One thing I'm not sure about is how much "Floyd loves its fans". When you listen to "What Do You Want From Me", it doesn't sound like Dave is fond of his fans at all. Yeah, it's just song lyrics, but.....
Another thing I remember is that Dave was always snubbing the staff of T A P fanzine. He would not cooperate with them at all. (Well, neither would Roger, of course). I got the idea in my head that Dave just wanted to be left the hell alone.
If, miracle of miracles, they WERE to reunite, I don't think it would be because they felt they owed it to us.
And, I could be totally wrong.

David's fan connection...

Honestly, the album "The Division Bell" was an album composed by the motivation as a lashing-out of sorts at all of the women of his life, the pain they caused, and his feeling of inadequacy for them. The song "What Do You Want From Me" is a song about Gilmour asking the women in his life "What exactly DO you want from me?" The theme of the lack of communication between himself and past lovers always made him uneasy towards his women, because they didn't really tell him what he could do to please him. Keep in mind that most of the songs were cowritten by his present lover, Polly Simpson. Also, according to Vernon Fitch, world-renown historian of Floydian culture the song is David Gilmour's retort to over-demanding fans, and how they selfishly demand that they kill themselves to please the crowd (in example Gilmour's feelings about going into the rain so that not one fan would be disappointed. The band does love the fans to an extent, but not if the fans expect the whole world out of them. Floyd just wants us, especially Gilmour, to not look at them as gurus, but simple musicians, and just expect that out of them. They have done a lot of things for their fans in the past and they feel that is enough. For more information on the Division Bell album, I'd suggest reading an interview that took place an 1995 issue of Guitar World or look at the interview at www.pink-floyd.org. Doubting is an easy thing to do, but if there is something you want in life, ask, and your chances for being answered are that much greater.
God bless and shine on,

If so, then kudos to him for choosing a highly appropriate way to release his emotions. I sincerely mean that. Too many people, when frustrated, do harm to themselves or those around them, I think. What a wonderful role ART can play for the soul...

I didn't realize Gilmour had written many lyrics for Division Bell.

Okay, okay, I KNOW I'm being overly picky, here, but I just have to say it (and I do so utterly without malice, just being an editor at heart):

Her name is "Polly *Samson*".

There, I said it. er, typed it... whatever...

sorry to be so nitpicky, but I keep seeing people misspelling her name (even *professional* journalists!), and I thought I could kindly and gently correct this common mistake.

And now back to your regularly scheduled programming...

Cheers!

Oops...I crapped my pants.

Wow, I stand corrected. But when I type as fast as I do, I sometimes write things I don't mean to. I understand your role as an editor because I've had some experience with journalism.

Just forget that I ended a sentence with a preposition.

Re: Theory (or prophecy...) of Pink Floyd in 2003

I very much doubt that the Floyd will ever do another studio album together, but i do hope that Roger Waters can get back on good terms with Gilmour and Wright.

That said, i would love to see more solo albums by Waters, as i have thouroughly enjoyed all of his solo stuff.

I could almost believe that one day there could be a "Final" Pink Floyd world tour, but i reckon that p.u.l.s.e. was the final tour with just Wright, Gilmour and Mason. If there were to be another tour, it would have to be something different to the last 2, something special, and the return of Waters, could be that missing piece...

But, probably not...

I guess I'd be the ever doubting Thomas, along the lines of thorin up there, I'll believe it when I see it, but until then, I set my sights utterly low.
