frankly, that is one of the appealing things to me about Roger's lyrics....he doesn't waste any effort on hackneyed love drivel like most other songwriters.

Re: Floyd LOVE Songs???

I think a really nice slow love song is "Us and them"
It's just a nice easy listening song that has nice sounds

Re: Floyd LOVE Songs???

I never would have thought of PF doing love songs but Pigs on the Wing, Stay and Green is the Colour are definitely close to love songs IMO. Coming Back To Life is another one.

Red Bull gives you wings but I 've got nowhere to fly to, fly to, fly to....

BTW I love that new band smillie. Looks like something from South Park! And that agree smillie, what is it doing?!

Re: Floyd LOVE Songs???

You're right. "Don't Leave Me Now" is practically a textbook-perfect picture of an abusive relationship...assault, followed by profuse apologies and gifts in an attempt to make up for it. At which point, the cycle starts right back up again. If not anything else, it is frighteningly accurate.

I think it's called love (those hopes, fears, and longings).
Also, Gilmour writes of lustful sex in One Slip ("Was it love, or was it the idea of being in love?") That is, in my opinion, one of the greatest lines ever.
I don't think love begins when you meet someone, I think love is achieved through being around the person, although what you think in the beginning helps a lot.

Re: Floyd LOVE Songs???

Well think some of the songs that have been mentioned are definitely not Love Songs. "Mother" (about Roger feeling stifled by an overbearing mum), "Us and Them" (Love??? not if you can read English), "summer '68" seems to be about a one night stand (if I'm thinking about the right song...I don't like the early stuff too much).

I agree with Gdub#1..."so far away" is definitely a love song of sorts. Someone else mentioned coming back to life, I agree with that too. Pigs on the Wing, Moment of Clarity and one or two others is about the sum total.

I must agree with eugenesaxe..."Young Lust". How much more romantic and blunt can one be?

Re: Floyd LOVE Songs???

I voted for Stay and Green is The Colour because they're some of the best ballads ever made by Pink Floyd. And some of the few love songs.

Re: Floyd LOVE Songs???

I'm sorry I didn't reply to this thread sooner it's just that I was too embarassed :shakehead , because I forgot some key songs.

It all started when I burned a Floyd CD to my girlfriend and added all the ones I considered semi-love songs, and the first one that came to mind was of course Pigs on the wing part 2, in fact here's the whole list:

- A Pillow Of Winds
- Stay
- Summer 68
- Pigs On The Wing (8-track version)
- Green is the Colour
- If
- Bike
- Coming Back to life
- Moment of Clarity

Of course not in that order and I may have missed one or two. She reportedly loved all of them except Bike and Moment Of Clarity, I could notice right away she couldn't "get" Syd or Waters. But after extensive listening, with me of course (there seemed to be no other way) she warmed up to both of them. Ah what a find she is...

Anyway, I sincerely apologize, I really do. I mean I had POTW 2 in mind even as I made the poll, god, what happened to me. Sorry ok! won't happen again!

See ya, you are only coming through in waves!

Re: Floyd LOVE Songs???

Don't apologise...I'm glad you've found a real "winner".

I always thought, though, that there were "darker" love songs, as well, but very real to me.

"Against the Odds" does speak of a struggling relationship, and I suspect many could identify with the feelings...such weariness from too long a fight.

Also, Broken China is love's conquering adversity, in my opinion.

Re: Floyd LOVE Songs???

The meanings are very real. Green Is The Colour has a very special meaning to me at the minute, memories just come flooding back with that one..... *fetches a massive box of tissues*

So I know what you mean.
