Pink Floyd song as ANTHEME

I think the national anthems are passed by now...

Some Pink Floyd songs seems maded fo become a national anthem, like "in the flesh" or "sorrow"... what do you think or suggest?

I'll see you on the dark side of the moon"

Re: Pink Floyd song as ANTHEME

I did notice a musical resemblance between the opening and closing solo in "Sorrow" (PULSE version) to the U.S. national anthem. Am I only dreaming when I hear that? I'm not even sure I can pin down what it is that makes me think that.

Yeah you're right, they are very similar... only for some notes but it give the same idea.
Anyway is good for an anthem!

Re: Pink Floyd song as ANTHEME

The only thing is that an anthem is usually more optimistic in nature than "Sorrow" is. But thanks for confirming I'm not the only one who heard the "Star Spangled Banner" in that song!

By "passed", do you mean that their musical styles are outdated? Or do you think that the IDEA of a national anthem is out of date?

No, not the idea, just is time to change style of music!
Maybe the lyrics of sorrow are not adapt, but the music..yeah....

Re: Pink Floyd song as ANTHEME

OK, thanks for clearing that up.

"Sorrow" might well work--but to some parts of Western culture, songs based on minor chords do not seem to give people a very optimistic feeling. Though I think some of the Eastern European cultures might not be so put off by the minor chords? (Perhaps some of our posters from that area could confirm or deny this.)
