Re: the wall

Shane G., thanks but no thanks. No self-respecting Californian would be caught dead in Flawda, mate; at least there weren't crocs and alligators and state-sized swamps in Callifornia.

Yes, indeed that was hashish...and if my eyesight is still okay, it didn't look like a mock-up prop but the real deal...in which case, the burning question is: Whose lump o' blow was it? :o

stratters: you REALLY should get out a lot more, mate.

BoaB: I don't think we have crocodiles naturally. Just good ol' alligators.

OT - Florida notes:

This has F*ck all to do with The Wall, but it got brought up (sorta), so...

When I lived in Florida, the following were spotted in my back yard (near a national park) or other locales near me, as noted:

An alligator (in the pond).
A bald Eagle (in a tree and in the sky).
A multitude of Sandhill Cranes (lovely birds, nasty voices).
Several armadillos.
Snakes (one fell on my head when I walked out the front door to go to work - true story!).
All sorts of gawd-awful bugs.
A spider the size of my hand (in the shower, on the inside of the shower curtain).

Cheers!

GeeDub#1

(who is kinda glad to be outta there, now!)

Okay, large amphibious "bitey" lizards then; specific species unimportant. Sheesh!

Re: the wall

Gw: Here, where I live, Eagles abound aplenty, as well as spiders and bugs of all sorts. And let's not forget snakes. We have cranes, though I am sure no sandhills, and the local pet shop has an alligator for sale. As far as I can tell, Florida is no different than right here. Exzcept it gets below 90 degrees more often than not.

Re: the wall

Yeah, but does Pennsylvania have a state-sized swamp, WILD alligators, or emigrant Cubans?

Re: the wall

The worst creature I've seen is a big-ish spider in the bathroom cupboard. Seeing lots of ravens possibly doesn't count as a comparable experience to seeing a bald eagle or a snake. But then I live in good ole England where we only have tiny grass snakes to compare.

Re: the wall

BoaB: 'State-sized swamp'? Have you ever been here? I mean, we may have some nice beaches (I don't dig the beach much, however), but no huge-ass swamp - at least not near where I live.
I think Riverview (or Tampa, for that matter) is pretty normal. Sure, we do have everything that GW#1 described (snakes, spiders, horrible mosquitoes), but seeing some of the animals (like the cranes and various other birds) is cool. Most of the time, people have to see that stuff in zoos - but I've got it near me, in the wild, and (sometimes annoyingly) around all the time.
I think it's a nice place. Just get rid of the mosquitoes and add in some snow during winter and I'd be happy.

Re: the wall

No, I'm a Californian by birth, and thus not so inclined to visit Florida.

Remember though, that Rhode Island is the smallest state, and the Everglades (swamp) may not be Alaska-sized, it's certainly Rhode Island-sized if not bigger.

I can do very well without the mosquitoes, thanks, but you also failed to mention the ticks and the chiggers.

Re: the wall

BoaB: 'Chigger'?

Also, I have experienced no problems with ticks whatsoever. One did get attached to one of my cats once, and I burned it off (not harming the cat in the process). But there's my one bad expereince with ticks. None have gotten attached to me, personally.
