Re: the pros and cons of hitchhiking

Mmmm... I have it, and I paid good money for it. But quite honestly I think it is (as well as its 1984 "companion" About Face) a weak album. Melodies are rehashes of what you already heard on The Wall and on The Final Cut. IMO it's a boring album.

Post Scriptum: If you love The Final Cut you might like Pros & Cons.

It's pretty good. I quite liked it. More than The Final Cut, actually.

Re: the pros and cons of hitchhiking

Personally, I didn't care for it so much. But I didn't really like Eric Clapton, so that may be part of the problem. I also admit I found a certain abrasiveness in tone to songs like "Sexual Revolution".

Now, "Each Stranger's Eyes" and "Moment of Clarity" are very nice...but...I guess I don't feel they quite make up for the rest of the album.

For the best of Roger Waters, I personally suggest The Final Cut and Amused to Death. And since I don't mind the 80's, I also enjoy Radio KAOS. (That makes for a great travelling album...quite a nice little illusion that you might be hearing it on your car radio!)

Re: the pros and cons of hitchhiking

I loved The Final Cut, and hated Pros and Cons. Quite boring and just Mother played as the melody. If you need to buy it because you want a complete collection, I suggest you exhaust your funds on collecting everything else Roger has done, as well as the Floyd, then maybe pick up one of Rick Wright's, then get it.

Re: the pros and cons of hitchhiking

I actully like the album, great to just sit down listen to it and relax. One of my favourits when when I'm trying to sleep ........but I get a bit scared some times; there are some loud singing and arabs with knives in there:o . But the last half of it is great. And as above, a bit like TFC in the sound.
The track The Remains Of Our Love was for long time my favourit song of all. Those girls voices is just

Ditto.

I saw the Live performance of this album in London and was blown away by the sheer spectacle and Clapton's collaboration. I don't think I would like it as much if I hadn't seen the Live show, but there you go.

One thing I know is Roger knows how to put on a great visual and musical performance, and I cannot wait to see him next month.

I thought Eric Clapton was quite good on the album. I actually found Sexual Revolution to have quite the guitar solo, really.

Re: the pros and cons of hitchhiking

Yeah, that's about my favourite track as well.

He's not David, admittedly, but hell, he IS Eric Clapton.

Re: the pros and cons of hitchhiking

I can't explain what it is about Eric Clapton that I don't like. Sometimes it's the twangier blues style (which just seemed like a mismatch on a Roger Waters album--Jeff Beck suited him MUCH better), and other times...it's as though he's mechanical. TOO perfect. Somehow, Mr. Gilmour's playing, though not as fast or as flashy as Mr. Clapton's, seems almost to "talk"...to tell a story without words. "Marooned" and "Comfortably Numb" (in no particular order) are good examples of this.

Re: the pros and cons of hitchhiking

F-W, it seem you and I are always on opposite sides of the fence, musically. How can anyone NOT like Clapton???(j/k) Yeah, you have to be blues-based to love him. He plays everything in minor pentatonic scale, which probably doesn't lend itself as well to PF music.

As for Pros and Cons....It's very very...mediocre. Comf-Pink, I would advise you to borrow someone elses and tape a copy or go to Audiogalaxy and download some tracks. It's been so long ago that I listened to it I can't even remember what was best. I do, however, have the early-release LP with the uncensored butt cover. (mint condition--probably worth up to $10.00)

Hey, F-W! Here's something we agree on! I like Radio KAOS too. I love the track "Sunset Strip"...the outro sax solo always makes me wanna jump up and boogaloo.

Re: the pros and cons of hitchhiking

Sometimes the blues is OK...other times, it seems mismatched. I wonder if it's a reaction to hearing that in association with Pink Floyd's riffs and Mr. Waters' voice? And musically, you're right. Pros and Cons is definitely mediocre.

But yeah...KAOS is a really cool trip, isn't it? Although, doesn't one of the songs (I can't remember which) seem VERY similar to "Bravery"? I still like it, though. One thing is that KAOS is rather chilling for me to hear. I can almost see the missiles coming in over the home of those I love...the last half of that album (from "Home" onward) makes me cry!

You said it buddy , that sums this album up perfectly

The only Waters solo effort worth bothering with is ATD.
