hey botley, nice to see a fellow ninner, heh..

i have to go with Jugband Blues, it is one of my favorite songs of all time. it is so melancoley and haunting....i just love it. it gives me chills that syd was so aware of what was happening to him. i love everything by syd, but this is not just my fav syd song, but one of my all time fav songs period.

Re: Favorite Track From 'Saucerful of Secrets'

Jugband Blues is my favourite Barrett composition, including his solo work, the 'Piper' material and his early singles. I think it makes from a brilliant album-closer too, delightfully out-of-place and almost seemingly beyond-the-grave. Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun got my vote, too. Roger's very finest song of the 60's, imo.

Perhaps I just haven't devoted enough time to the album as I should - it was the last Floyd album I got, and one of my least favourites, comparatively - but most of the remainder sounds like each band member's just taking turns at trying to write like Syd, and while it's mostly pleasing enough none of it is half as captivating as the material they're emulating. The band would improve significantly when they learned to make the most of their own talents, instead of all trying to be Syd.

Re: Favorite Track From 'Saucerful of Secrets'

I voted for Remember a Day.

Why? It's psychadelic rick wright. It sounds absolutely fantastic.

Let there be more light was also good
Set the controls was decent, but too repetitive for my tastes
See-saw was good, but sort of got repetitive at the end
Corporal Clegg? I won't go there.
A saucerful was decent, but I had trouble enjoying it
Jugband blues makes me think and freak out at the same time.

Re: Favorite Track From 'Saucerful of Secrets'

A tie between Corporal Clegg and Jugband Blues; having to pick just one, that's what i did: CC (is multiple choice allowed...?)

StCftHotS is one of the most overrated PF songs IMO; if Rog wants to perform one of his oldies in his concerts why not the good old 'Take Up Thy Stethoscope And Walk' ?
(or Corporal Clegg indeed)

Re: Favorite Track From 'Saucerful of Secrets'

i'll agree to that. Set the Controls is an allright song, but not the best. As far as the others go, I like Let There Be More Light, Corporal Clegg, and Remember A Day. Out of those three, I'd probably pick the last one. Jugband Blues is good stuff. And personally, I like the title track just fine. See-Saw, I'm kind of already spaced out after the rest of the album and can't seem to enjoy it much. Take Up Thy Stethescope I don't even see as that great a song, while on the subject. Sure it's on Piper and everything, which as a whole is good, but I don't know about that particular song.

I was jocking, TUTSAW is strange, i think it just create a good moment with Pow R. Toh H. and Interstellar Overdrive.
Back to ASoS: the title track is good but Celestial Voices, that's the best part, is IMO far better live in Ummagumma.

And even better and better versions on some obscure bootlegs.

Let there be more light

Explanation: Because it's an ideal start for a great album.

Re: Favorite Track From 'Saucerful of Secrets'

Jugband Blues and Saucerful of Secrets are my favourites. Nothing else is that great. The Rick Wright songs are pretty good. Let there be more light is ok. Set the Controls is WAY overrated but is alright. Corporal Clegg isn't great but its sorta fun to listen to. But for some reason the albums seems better than the sum of its parts coz despite not caring for some of the tracks i still fins myself listening to it alot.
