Favorite Track From 'Saucerful of Secrets'

I thought I'd be a little nutty and start a poll on this album...

So, if you've got a favorite track, vote away.

If you want to post to explain yourself, then do so.

,

-Shane

(BTW, I voted for Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun and the title track.
You can vote for multiple things, so feel free to pick more than one song.)

I prefer the song: a saucerful of secrets
especially because of celestial voices!

Oh, man...I can't choose!

I can give good reasons for all of the songs except "Corporal Clegg" and "Jugband Blues".

Some great tracks but I go for Set The Controls... I'm a sucker for the "eastern" tinge of Rick's keyboards.

Am I alone in not particularly liking the title track? I know it was a major change in direction and marked the beginning of The Floyd we know today but I just find it rather hard to enjoy.

I find the album version a little slow-paced and boring, but it is still one of the best tracks on the album.
The Pompeii version is better, though.

You are right, Dr Cheese, it IS rather hard to enjoy. Some parts in the middle are *very* hard and I cannot say I "enjoy" them. It's almost a suffering actually but when Celestial Voices begins, the Hammond chords deliver such a powerful sense of peace and harmony... that's the whole sense of the piece. That's the part I really enjoy... pure bliss.

Celestial Voices is the only part of the track I "enjoy" too , it's quite heavenly after what has gone before it !!

Indeed, thorin13 old chum, all part of life's rich tapestry.

I found voting on this poll almost as difficult as the OBC poll, but since I didn't allow multiple votes there, I chose all the tracks except Corporal Clegg and Saucerful of Secrets here.

I omitted my vote for SOS, in agreement with Dr Cheese and mad yannis, because of the very "difficult to bear" middle bit only - if that part wasn't there, I'd have no problem with it.

I have never actually been all that impressed with Corporal Clegg mainly because of the kazoo chorus. Eug'axe will be livid, I know, but to each their own.

Well...I finally went and voted, for ASoS. Although there were a lot of other good contenders in there--"Set the Controls" is good, and some others as well...

Am I the only one who doesn't mind that middle section? I personally think it's very interesting.

"Jugband Blues" wouldn't have got my vote, or "Corporal Clegg". In fact, I even stop the album most times after "See-Saw"...what a pleasant note to drift out on. SO unlike what follows it. "Jugband Blues" just scares me.

I'm glad to see that someone (BoaB) finally voted for See-Saw.
It's not a bad song for the period.

I think I'm more partial to the Pompeii version (of Saucerful of Secrets) because you can actually see what the Floyd is doing. And 'Celestial Voices' is better than the album version, because it has drums (like the Ummagumma version).

I keep forgetting I have multiple choices. If I'd voted as I wanted to the first time, I would've included everything excepting "Corporal Clegg" and "Jugband Blues".

I just fixed my vote to reflect that.
