| Re: Favorite Star Wars episode? No, George Lucas had not written all six movies, he had always planned on six episodes, but he only came up with the original 6. why do you think it took 20 years for episode 1 to be released, he had to come up with a script that made sense.

| Re: Favorite Star Wars episode? Yes, he did wrote the whole story, but actually, FW, Lucas chose to do Ep. IV. It's been extremely difficult for him to find just the money for ONE film. Many studios refused to produce Star Wars. And when Fox agreed to produce the project no one thought it could be the incredible blockbuster we all know it's been. Subsequently he decided to complete the trilogy.

Obviously he did not write the whole *screenplay* but he DID write the whole plot. The story was complete since the beginning. it took 20 years because he waited for the necessary technology. 20 years of writing? what a hell of a screenplay!!!

What the hell! Dialogue is exactly what the new trilogy is lacking. God, how i long for REAL characters like Han Solo, Leia, Luke... I have finally figured out what Attack of the clones means, it's just George Lucas' way of letting us know that he's laughing at us for making him even richer by going to the cinema to see a load of clones steal cheesy dialogue from other films. |

| Re: Favorite Star Wars episode? Quote:
I think he was referring to the fact that the characters from the first trilogy were actually 3-dimensional, and not just a bland excuse for a character like in the last two films. Han Solo was the 'everyman' in the trilogy, the kind of character with which you identified. Because he was always 'not so sure' about all that stuff of the force. He was laid back, but most importantly Harrison Ford made a character with *wit* and *charm*. Mark Hamill also did a good job with Luke, so did Carrie Fisher with Leia. They had fun with their characters and with their dialogue. They were full-blown, they were part of the picture, instead of *stepping into it* like the actors from the last two films do. I think it's because the casting process for those films was flawless, they got terrific actors which made the movies work, they also must have gotten at least *some* good direction by Lucas. Empire had an even better more talented foreign director, which was the perfect move, he managed to squeeze out the best performances from these actors. Unlike what has happened with the last two films, the casting process is horrendous. How can somebody like Lucas spend months looking for the young and the teenage Anakin and come up with Jake Lloyd and Hayden Christensen? Those two were: a) Probably good actors, but delivered very bad performances b) Had annoying, whiny voices c) Took their roles too seriously d) Got bad direction from Lucas The only character that seems to be hitting the right notes more than half the time is Ewan Macgregor (sp?) as Obi Won. But he still has some dialogue that totally ruins his moments. Other than him and a few *moments* Christpher Lee had as Count Dooku in episode II, name one actor that doesn't slump it. Please don't mention Samuel L. Jackson (terrific actor) as Maice Windu. The worst thing about it all is that Lucas said that: *I didn't do anything wrong with these films, the ones who don't like it seem to be the internet geeks and the fanatics. I think that the movies will be understood and loved years from now.* I don't know how correct that quote is, but that's the idea. Jeffrey Welles quoted him, take a look at his columns in Reel.com and look it up if you want. That is what bothers me the most, he obviously needs some help with the screenplay, but he's too proud to accept that he's writing crap. He obviously needs to hand over the last episode to a more gifted director, the more he's not into the star wars thing, the better, the material would seem fresher, and the new approach would probably make it one of the best sci-fi movies yet. Episode 3 has a LOT of potential, hope he realizes this and does the right thing. Sorry for the length

| Re: Favorite Star Wars episode? Things from the past are ALWAYS better, aren't they? There's nothing to do, actually. They're our memories, our youth. Nothing more, nothing less.

If you've ever seen the film Amadeus or indeed read the play or seen a production of it you would have noticed that Emperor Joseph of Austria always finished off discussions and basically anything else he said with "Well, there it is" and because I didn't have anything to add to the post before mine I said ..... Simple as that my friend :d ![]()

| Re: Favorite Star Wars episode? Excellent post, bertin_brando. Though you sound a bit of a SERIOUS Star Wars fan - perhaps too fanatical for a Floyd fan? - I thought your post was spot on. MY: things past may seem better, but in this case it's true. The new Anakin's are annoying AND whiney! ![]()
