Re: Favorite album from this era

My vote is for The Wall BUT I have to say that my vote should go to ITAOT The Wall Live which is indeed from this era and which is by far a better rendition of the album!!! Otherwise it would be a tie between The Wall and Animals.

Re: Favorite album from this era

I have to go with Animals simply because it was my first Floyd album , and remains one of my favourites.
I also agree with yannis , The Wall live is an excellent album , much better than the original version.

Re: Favorite album from this era

If ITAOT--the musically superior version of The Wall--had been on there, it would've changed my vote as well.

But given those three choices, I pick The Final Cut. Much more concise than The Wall, and while musically lacking in comparison to The Wall, it is lyrically superior, and DID have some good, angry guitar solos on it.

Animals--never did develop much of a liking for that album, except for "Dogs".

I chose The Wall, because it is longer than Animals and is not as boring as The Final Cut.
I like Animals, though. I took me a while to get into, but I like it well enough now.

Do you think that was because Roger was kicking Dave's butt at the time

Out of those three, The Final Cut was the one I listened to the most when I got it. Also one of the three that I still listen to the most.

There could be some venting of anger there, perhaps.

On Animals, I notice a certain lack of subtlety on the keys...almost the kind of angry feel of "Sysyphus". What particularly stands out is that loud, clanging glissando on "Pigs". I can imagine that done with a very angry look, while certain people's backs were turned.

I say all of this because I tend to vent a lot of anger into music, when I'm upset.

Re: Favorite album from this era

The main difference is the feeling. ITAOT sounds better. And it has more music, more instrumental parts, more guitar and keyboard solos: the studio recording was compressed by the limits of the LP format. The guitar solo in Mother is mind blowing. And it has What Shall We Do Now, and The Last Few Bricks (an instrumental medley). It sounds much more Pink Floyd than the studio recording which in comparison sounds almost dead. The work of Rick Wright is great. ITAOT is far superior to The Wall.
