| Pink Floyd Recommends... What do THEY think? At various times, PF members have commented on their musical tastes, and influences. Here are some that I can recall... Roger Waters recommends John Lennon... Richard Wright was influenced by Miles Davis... (The latter is interesting, considering Miles Davis is a trumpet player. But I can hear the similarities...Miles Davis seems to "weave" his work into the other instruments in a way that is very familiar.) Any more? Also, along similar lines... If you like Roger Waters, you might also like... ? If you like Richard Wright, you might also like... ? --Miles Davis --Brian Eno? (I'm just now starting to get into his work. And so on for the other members?

| Re: Pink Floyd Recommends... I'm pretty sure every Floyd liked the Beatles. Syd always said he was into jazz, espcially John Coltrane. He also liked the blues (which is how the band got it's name in the first place). If you like the guitar stylings of Dave, I would recommend a reletively unknown '70s guitarist named Robin Trower. His album "Bridge of Sighs" is a great album, filled to the brim with great guitar playing. BTW, FloydWright, have you heard the albums that Eno did with David Bowie? They are really cool! |

| Re: Pink Floyd Recommends... Not yet. I'm not very familiar yet with Brian Eno at all. Most of my familiarity comes from some work he did with U2 on their most recent album.

| Re: Pink Floyd Recommends... In the recent guitar magazine i bought, David Gilmour says "I learned the guitar with the help of a (folk legend) Pete Seeger record when I was 13 or 14. And I did listen to a lot of folk and folk blues. Leadbelly and Pete Seeger were both big influences on me." I dont know either of them myself! So i'll shut up now.

| Re: Pink Floyd Recommends... I know a bit about Pete Seeger, but I hadn't thought to compare them. Maybe I'll give that a try sometime...

| Re: Pink Floyd Recommends... Can't say I have much experience with David Bowie's work to even make a judgment on that.

| Re: Pink Floyd Recommends... Rick Wright in a 1996 interview recommends the following: THE BAND Music From Big Pink (Capitol, 1968) JEFF BECK Jeff Beck's Guitar Shop With Terry Bozzio And Tony Hymas (Epic, 1989) AARON COPLAND Appalachian Spring: Bernstein Conducts Copland (CBS, 1962) MILES DAVIS Porgy and Bess (Columbia, 1959) BRIAN ENO AND DAVID BYRNE My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts (Polydor/EG, 1981) PETER GABRIEL Passion (Virgin, 1989) STEELY DAN The Royal Scam (ABC, 1976) TALKING HEADS Remain In Light (Sire, 1980) HENRYCK GORECKI Symphony Number 3 (Elektra, 1992) TALK TALK The Colour Of Spring (EMI, 1986) In this moment I am listening for the first time to Miles Davis' "Porgy and Bess" which I've bought today for 10 €, and I can say it's pretty good.

I once had the misfortune of attending a Robin Trower gig at The Royal Court Theatre here in Liverpool in the late '70's - I can honestly say it was the worst gig I've ever been to, and I've been to a few! But hey, that's just my opinion. |

| Re: Pink Floyd Recommends... Hey, I didn't realise Mr. Wright was a Copland fan! I've been one since before I even knew PF existed! I'd say of the works I know, there's some cool stuff on there.

| Re: Pink Floyd Recommends... That's a bit of a stretch! Really, if you look at Copland's harmonies, it's not surprising...his work is quite fresh and innovative. Most people may only be familiar with "Fanfare for the Common Man", but I recommend further exploration of his work, if you have any liking at all for classical. He's a 20th century composer, so it's not all of the staid old harmonies you might associate with past composers. I remember being sad the day I turned on CNN to find out that Aaron Copland had died...
