Sorry, but the mixing on "Learning to Fly" DSoT version STINKS. You can't hear the airplane AT ALL!

Even AMLoR has that silly little puddle-jumper!

But PULSE--that's a REAL airplane, I think--a massive jumbo jet, from the sound of it!

Take a look at these songs:

- Time
- Wish You Were Here
- Us & Them
- Money
- Another Brick In The Wall Part II
- Comfortably Numb
- Run Like Hell
- Shine On You Crazy Diamond
- Learning To Fly
- Sorrow
- One Of These Days

All These songs appear on bothe PULSE and DSOT live albums. IMO the first 7 songs are better on PULSE. Can't make my mind on the other ones. What do you think????

The reason I posted this is because no one seems to cut some slack to DSOT. I don't think it's half bad, in fact I like it, for personal reasons though. And I think it has the *definitive* versions of a lot songs; 'Dogs of War' and 'On The Turning Away' come directly to mind.

Anyway, what do you guys think??!!
DSOT isn't bad. It's not as good as Pulse, that's all, but I like it. Anyway you are right about "definitive" versions: I would add Yet Another Movie to your list. The songs of AMLOR performed live have a better feeling, less computerized sound, part of this is due to the work of Rick Wright on keyboards IMO. He added more natural, warm sounds.

Well put, Mad Yannis.

I don't think "Signs of Life" is on the CD, but I remember it on the video. To me, that song confirms your point about the keyboards in spectacular--yet wonderfully subtle--fashion.

I'd say the changes or additions were very slight, just some quiet harmonies added in, some slightly changed note sequence--yet the result almost brought me to tears, it was so beautiful!!!

PULSE, I think, also highlights wonderfully how much Mr. Wright's keyboard playing helps out. That version of "Comfortably Numb" seems to make one float, to soar. All I'll say is...it's not just the slowed tempo and the guitar playing that causes that...

I guess I'm One Of The Few that really likes DSOT. IMHO, DSOT versions are better of:

-- Time (great solo, Rick sounds great)
-- One Of These Days (killer slide guitar!)
-- Us & Them (the Floyd at their mellowest best)
-- Comfortably Numb (my fav DG solo ever)
-- Money (I really don't like this song - the jams in the middle make it bearable)
-- SOYCD (Dave's guitar work is impeccable, and Scott Page's sax work has got tons of feel).

Pulse, I like:

Run Like Hell (DG rocks on the echo)
WYWH (great Tim Renwick 12-string guitar work)
Learning To Fly (much better than DSOT).

Thanks for asking!

DSOTM have no similar, nothing can compare with it, but the live version of "Money" on Pulse is really cool...
I don't say that is better, but is really well-made

lemme add my two cents in this discussion.
someone (i don't remember who was it sorry) mentioned the 15 mins version of Fat Old Sun - it's absolutely faaaabulous ! such a pity i lost the tape with this bootleg a long time ago.
and as i said on another thread, i absolutely love Money from DSoT, that mid-song jam is so fantastic. the best version ever for me. but i got into Floyd through DSoT so it's not surprise. still means a lot to me.
