I'm going to have to go with Wish You Were Here, just...because. Sometimes I find it more laborous to listen to Dark Side. I've heard it so many times. It's brilliant, it really, truly is. However, I can't help but feel like the only reason it still entertained me after so long a time, was because I liked joing the ranks of stoned college students nationwide and watching it with Oz. From then on, every time I would hear the album, particularly the laughs in On The Run (the panting Toto) or Great Gig (falling house), I would picture the movie - and I think that's no way to enjoy a Pink Floyd album. Wish You Were Here just appeals to me more, it seems much less tied down to it's own concept, if that makes sense. Dark Side can depress me, Wish can uplift me. As Rick Wright has said when interviewed (not to say that I favor him more than any of the others - I like them all), WYWH is one of his favourite Floyd albums, which he loved both musically *and* lyrically, and one of the rare Floyd productions he could listen to for pleasure...I tend to agree with him.

I love WYWH perhaps in some ways more than any other Floyd album if for no other reason than that each time I hear that first mournful note of Shine On You Crazy Diamond, I find myself transported back to 1977, where I am sitting on the stadium grass in a light drizzle. watching the circular screen and listening in wonder as the most spectacular experience of my life began to unfold before me. And thus my love affair with Pink Floyd began.

Echoes IS the best of Pink Floyd, or at least the best 156 minutes.

That's actually technically untrue Botley, Old Breast.

About a third of it is totally mediocre.

Cheers,

It's funny that no-one has mentioned the obvious about WYWH yet:

that it is an acutely boring album that is less fun to listen to than your gran eating a big bag of old crisps.

Omnipotence,

Everyone of us has his own different "bestofpinkfloyd" in his mind. There's no way two of us can completely agree on a tracklist. Echoes is the best in Pink Floyd's opinion, I think it's enough.

Probably because it's NOT that obvious. Probably because nobody here think it's boring.

Well, even if part 9 of soycd sound really good, it is a bit boring. Great for listening at night, if you can't sleep.

Try going to sleep while DSOTM is playing. It works out a treat.

They are both even, in my opinion. I enjoy the variety of masterpieces on both albums.... Shine on you crazy diamond is a fine example of those songs that we can sit down and listen to for 20 minutes and not get tired of...

Then again, dark side of the moon contains alot of music that wright influenced... And I just love wright's jazz elements that he added to pink floyd, before the waters domination.

There's my two cents.
