Dark Side or WYWH?

This may seem a bit futile at first, but think about it...

Both Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here are GREAT albums. I listened to both today, in a row.

They are both very good, but which would you consider better? And for what reasons?

(I think this thread will turn into something very interesting...)

I voted for DSOTM.
Don't ask me why I did, because even I don't know!
I think it has to do with my 'history' with this album. I think I can relate to it better.

Then again, I can relate to Wish You Were Here...

I dunno, this is all confusing me.

I voted for Wish You Were Here, as it is my favorite Pink Floyd album. But Dark Side rocketh as well.

This is one of the toughest choices, I always ask myself this. Sometimes I am a WYWH devotee and other times I find myself mesmerized by DSTOM once again.

Let's put it this way, to me, Dark Side is a 10 and WYWH is a 9.99.

Sincerely now, it is VERY difficult to make this choice. Personally I think Dark Side has fuller and better lyrics and WYWH just *may* have a stronger musical core. Still Dark Side reaches a peak of perfection in my opinion that has an impact I have felt before only with very few albums (WYWH of course), but I've never gotten as many natural *highs* as I get from listening to Dark Side.

Still, both of these records are pure musical bliss

They're both great, but I give a slight edge to Dark Side. Now that I think about it, it's because of the Brain Damage/Eclipse high. I mean if Dark Side were only 7 songs, it would be almost a tie with WYWH (it would probably beat it with just 7 songs), but those last two are just amazing, they take your breath away. And with WYWH, you're left just as satisfied but with a sense of longing and it's less of a *trip* than Dark Side.

Man, writing this is sooo difficult, now I'm completely sure that WYWH has a stronger musical core.

I'm going to stick to my original reaction and choose Dark Side, even though I understand the WYWH devotees.

like everyone before me has stated this is a damn tough choice. but i ultimately chose DSotM cause it is just such a masterpiece.

I chose DSotM, but that's only because...hell, I don't even know why!

SoYCD, WYWH - how am I supposed to compare that to Time, UaT, Great Gig, ACYL/BD/Eclipse ???

These are both good albums with many characteristics recommending them.

I picked DSotM because I find it a bit more universal in theme and approach (from my perspective). The further you get from DSotM, the more Pink Floyd seems to become the story of Roger Waters than a universal story. This is good for those who identify with Mr. Waters, but I find that identification comes and goes. DSotM is far more universalised.

I cannot vote. These albums are perfect. The Best of Pink Floyd. They are on top of my personal list and if today I slightly prefer WYWH tomorrow Dark Side could be my choice.

And by rights, Meddle should have also been included for without these three albums no collection of Pink Floyd music would be worth spit.

Just wanted to say that I listened to Dark Side again today... I turned it up loud, and lay on my bed, totally zonked out...
I now know why I voted for DSOTM. Because, to quote good 'ol Thorin, "It's a masterpiece."

BTW, I agree to the 'holy Floyd trinity'.

Anyone ever watch the movie Sophie's Choice? This poll kinda reminds me of that.
