I really don't know how the pre-Arnold Layne stuff sounds, because I haven't heard any of it. I don't think any of it was released officially, however, so some searching is in order.

Pre-Arnold Layne stuff, i.e. King Bee or Lucy Lea(ve) is rather amateurish, nothing special indeed. It's "interesting" to discover how the guys played in their early days though.

I've noticed Nick Schaffner spells it "Close" and my TAP Magazines spell it "Klose". At any rate, Bob apparently didn't mesh well with Syd; thought he was a little wierd. (?!) and Bob didn't want to get into drugs, so he quit The Pink Floyd Sound in July 1965. I'm pretty certain he is not on anything recorded by the early Floyd. But I could be wrong....Frankly, the early era is of little interest to me so I've never studied it.

Having only recently discovered King Bee - cover of an old Blues song - and Lucy Leave, mad yannis, I would say that though very raw, they are indeed something special.

Syd fans would certainly be able to FEEL the Floyd.

I like the way Syd seems to really enjoy himself when he's stinging on King Bee "YEAH!" and also enjoy his trademark singing and frenetic solo - one assume's it's Syd - on Lucy Leave. I've been comparing guitar solo styles of different folk during that year and the Velvet Undergound, and Jim (Roger) McGuinn sound remarkably similar.

Yes, I know what you mean, and it's true. I just did want to say that it's better to keep expectations not too high. I mean, a fan looking for a new Interstellar Overdrive or a new Lucifer Sam could be disappointed.

Ditto for me, Ben

Although in addition to his guitar playing, DG's voice is exceptional, and his song-writing ability and sense of melody is the best!

Now RW is way up there for me, too. Just not quite as high as BDG.

David Gilmour. Without a doubt. The sound of his voice and guitar can take you places that none other could even dream of reaching. He's just that darn good.

On the BBC site, Bob Close is called Brian Close (?!). Which do you believe?!

I'm still using the angel, thorin.

thats odd about the brian close thing though. they are wrong because on the pink floyd legends program it said bob and they wouldn't get that wrong especially when talking to him. also on that program it was spelled klose. so who knows about that one.
