I voted for sheep, it conveys perfectly how many people live. That, and it's a good listen.

Dogs was good, but it sounded really freestyle. It lacked a centralizing structure, in my opinion.

Re: favorite song from "animals"

But it did have Roger and his band sitting playing cards live, so that was good.

Poker face (and the rest),

Re: favorite song from "animals"

I think that was the point. Although, I had to have it pointed out to me. I thought that he was just having a pop at Rick and his tedious solo, but apparently not...

Re: favorite song from "animals"

you're half right. when i typed it out i took it from the back of the paperback edition of "the restaurant at the end of the universe" and it didn't have that part.

"Dogs" is the best song from "Animals", but heck, they're all good songs!

Re: favorite song from "animals"

Animals is just an incredible album, and Dogs is he standout.

I don't think I have ever heard such beautiful guitar playing as I hear on Dogs. I have also heard that Gilmour actually had to retake one of his solos because it was accidentally cut, but he liked the 1st better. True story?

Re: favorite song from "animals"

Well my favorite song is PIGS ON THE WING PT 2, but it's not up there!

j/k...my personal favourite would be SHEEP, although I know that DOGS is better, I enjoy SHEEP the most out of all of those songs

True story. I believe it was the solo where he makes the guitar sound like a chained dog barking and gnashing at the listener.

You see, Animals was the first LP they recorded with the newfangled 24-track tape machine, and Roger hadn't quite figured out what all the knobs do yet. So Dave does this fantastic solo, which everyone loves, but he decides to make another pass at it just to fill in any possible gaps. Roger presses the wrong button, and instead of putting the solo onto a new track he records over on the first track, wiping the first (and reportedly superior) solo.

Oh well. Incidentally, it was later that same day that Snowy White first met the band. He was pretty surprised at how dour the mood was in the studio by the time he got there! Probably put him off a little bit. Anyway, Dave didn't feel like doing anything else that day so they had Snowy record the guitar solo which has caused me to fall in love with his playing and cast the sole vote for POTW in this poll.
