Both my brother and I really got into Nirvana at the same time, and that was the first band I really liked. I still enjoy them from time to time. However, the first band that I got into by myself was the Beatles, maybe about a year after I got into Nirvana.

Embarassingly enough, The Pet Shop Boys. I still have a special place in my heart for them. They are like the Floyd of dance music.

Queen, most definitely. I owned every one of their albums within a year or two of really getting into them. I'd call it more so obsession. After I got back to the Beatles, and Who, and Floyd I could barely stand to listen to them anymore (Queen that is). But, every once in a while I rehash the old Queenies...in fact I've got the Made In Heaven cd playing right now.

My first favorite band was Pearl Jam, but I don't know if you could say I really got into them because I was kind of young and didn't know what I was doing. So I'll probably have to say Silverchair.

My first CD was 'Nirvana: Unplugged in New York', that was all I needed. I then got all of their records, I still listen to them, the Unplugged and Nevermind are simply among the best records of the 90's. Next I really got into Radiohead, seems I lost track when I got into Floyd and the Beatles almost simultaniously. I have to admit I love the Beatles, but I found Floyd's music more fascinating; longer compositions, more instruments, way better lyrics, the whole history of the band, etc. And they *do* cover like 3 decades. Since then I've discovered other great bands, but not really *got into them*, because my Floyd collection is still incomplete. But I love: Genesis, Yes, The Who, King Crimson and Hawkwind! See ya, come in here, dear boy, have a cigar! Last edited by bertin_brando; 05-26-2002 at 04:46 PM.

I hate to show my age, but it was Rush that I really got into - after the Farewell To Kings album. An then when Hemispheres and then Permanent Waves came out, I was a hard-core fan (still am, I guess). ![]() Of course, Floyd was always right up there - I bought all of their albums after DSotM as soon as they came out, and I've been really heavily into them since...but since this is a PF site, that won't surprise anyone.

Billy Idol was probably the first artist that I really dug- from there it was simply a mosh skip and a jump to Guns and Roses. After that, it was Metallica, then Black Sabbath and finally Pink Floyd. There were a whole bunch of other lesser bands, but those were the real big ones for me. Obviously, Billy did look like an utter prick, but you tend not to notice that when you've got the early-teens hero worship thing going. I even remember buying the same hair gel as him. Gah. Cheers, Mark
