For me it's between: - The Final Cut - The Wall - Animals - Dark Side of The Moon Wish you Were Here and Meddle, was also great, but not as good as the ones above. I think The final Cut and Animals are a cut above the rest, so it's probably between those two. FOR ME, of course. Some of these guys solo work also has great lyrics. ATD comes directly to mind What do you think? If you vote for one that has more than one album, please specify which on a post. And if you want to say why, then go ahead, that's the beauty of it all! Don't worry, it's a multiple choice poll, so you don't have to suffer as you choose. Last edited by bertin_brando; 05-27-2002 at 03:30 PM.

I said Dark Side of the Moon...which is consequently playing right now...eerie. I just think it's the ingenius of its simplicity...as Roger would say.

Dark Side, definitely. The concept has an universal value and yes, "the ingenius of its simplicity..." indeed.

I voted for DSotM and TFC. I would give an honourable mention to Meddle, and I think TDB had individual songs worth honouring (most notably WtIO), but not enough to give it a vote.

While the symbolism in Animals is rather interesting, I feel that the album as a whole lacks in coherence; the concept is quite forced, in my opinion, especially if you look at the source material to the album, and how different those songs were.

DSOTM: a complex simplicity. For me the best one. Animals: agree with FloydWright. The Wall: despite having some great lyrics like Nobody Home, it has also "lyrics" like those for ABITW Part I. The Final Cut: Although I find it repetitive sometimes, I still like some parts of those extremely elaborated lyrics. Wish You Were Here: the lyrics are good, and the music even better.

I agree, I never thought the concept from Animals was realized as fully as those from the Wall and The Final Cut, which I consider to be Floyd's most coherent concept albums. Dark Side was also very good. But if you take the songs from animals as individuals, the lyrics are fantastic, especially Dogs. I find them to be sharp, angry, sarcastic and cut right to the point. I don't know if I made any sense, but out of all the Floyd albums, the ones that really leave me awe-inspired because of their lyrics are those from Dark Side, The Final Cut and Animals. See ya, what do you get for pretending the danger's not real!! |

ANIMALS seems the most relevant today. In my opinion. The things they sing about are even more true now than ever! The pigs have gotten even more control, the dogs are as rabid as ever and it's clear anytime you see a television commercial that the sheep are still falling for it all. I wish the world was a better place since than but it seems even worse. Waters nailed it on that one even if the concept seems weak.

Personally, sarah, I think Amused to Death does a better job of showing the state of today's society...but that's just my opinion.

Amused to Death has some warmth in it that I think appeals to more people. Aside from pigs on the wing, Animals is very bitter. The sound of the music is hard and angry also. I find most people do not think ANIMALS is the best and certainly PIGS is not an often mentioned favorite (my fave). I just love the guitar and the Keyboard part at the beginning and before the 3rd verse. I get the feeling Waters is definitely NOT the bass player on that song. It sounds like a studio musician or maybe Gilmour is playing it. Anyone know for sure? It can't be Waters. Can it? I know Gilmour played bass on a few. The fretless bass on Hey You, for example. I think I like ANIMALS because I am angry and bitter. You probably noticed.
