Question Where Can I Find Out About The "Flight Talk" In The Background Of "Learning To Fly&qu

I'm just curious where the band got that "flight talk" from... it doesn't sound faked or staged, so I assume it was from a real flight recording? Any ideas? Anyone know of a "behind the scenes" website or something that might have the information I'm looking for? Thanks!!

Re: Where Can I Find Out About The "Flight Talk" In The Background Of "Learning To Fly&qu

This is a recording of Nick Mason in the cockpit of an airplane, checking his instruments before takeoff. Some person managed to work out most of what is said:

Friction lock - set.
Mixture - rich.
Propellors - fully forward.
Flaps - set - 10 degrees.
Engine guages and suction - check.
Mixture set to maximum percent - recheck.
Flight instruments...
Altimeters - check both.
Engine gauge - on.
Navigation lights - on.
Strobes - on.
(to tower): Confirm 3-8-Echo ready for departure.
(tower): Hello again, this is now 129.4.
(to tower): 129.4. It's to go.
(tower): You may commence your takeoff, winds over 10 knots.
(to tower): 3-8-Echo.
Easy on the brakes. Take it easy. Its gonna roll this time.
Just hand the power gradually, and it...
(VROOOOOOM)

It amazes me that people can hear that much detail...I'd only ever made out bits and pieces of that.

Well, if you happen to be at a Pink Floyd concert, during a performance of Learning To Fly, standing next to one of the loudspeakers at the rear of the venue from which this particular passage of dialogue is blaring loud and clear and isolated, with tape recorder in hand, it becomes rather easy to discern what precisely is being said, despite the fact that the man next to you is rambling on through a frightfully long run-on sentence which shows no sign of stopping even though his face is turning blue and he appears perilously close to passing out, which he soon does.

Switch?

I merely want the tactile thrill of fondling Botley's fun bags.

You gotta love Mr. James.

If not his music, at least his sense of humor.
