Re: Best Song On Momentary Lapse Of Reason

Honestly, the first three choices are the only ones that I listen to regularly. Don't much care for the rest of the album, but I'll give it a spin once in awhile.

Pulse, especially for Sorrow. And I agree with you, live version of On The Turning Away in DSOT is far better than the studio one.

Re: Best Song On Momentary Lapse Of Reason

I voted for Signs Of Life because it's the only song from the album that I enjoyed listening to for the first time. At that point the other songs totally annoyed me. I actually started to listen again to the whole album after I joined this forum.

Certainly PULSE for LTF. I heard the DSoT version once, and I couldn't even stand to finish it.

As for Sorrow, I can't vote because I haven't heard the DSoT version of that song.

Post Sorrow

On DSOT it sounds almost like the original studio version, only that it has the opening solo at the end too. I kinda like it more than the studio version for that reason.

Re: Best Song On Momentary Lapse Of Reason

I had to vote for One Slip, that is a great song, I love the whole album. I didn't know you could vote for more than one, I would have put Learning to Fly and On The Turning Away also. Definately one of my favorite albums, Gilmour is (in my opinion, no offense to anybody) a much better lyricist and vocalist then Waters.

Re: Best Song On Momentary Lapse Of Reason

I disagree. Lines like "The use of force/He was so tough" piss me off. That is not lyrical brilliance IMO.

Re: Best Song On Momentary Lapse Of Reason

What am I hearing? The DSoT version of On The Turning Away better than the studio version? No f***ing way! It's too calm and the solo, well haven't listened to it much but as I can recall, it was way below average! The OTTA studio version has sheer powerrrr!!!!!!

I almost voted for Learning to Fly...but I think the PULSE version is VASTLY superior...so I couldn't give the award to this version.

Although I didn't say this when I voted for the TDB songs, even the "weaker" songs are NOT bad songs, and work within the context of the album.

I completely agree on all counts. It was hard to choose between YAM and Sorrow, but I voted for YAM because there are superior versions of Sorrow available and I love the "maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow..." sample.

I really can't listen to this album, although I do like Signs of Life and Terminal Frost very much - I think they're the only things on the album that sound like Pink Floyd songs.

Re: Best Song On Momentary Lapse Of Reason

Unfortunately, all songs sound like PF cause they are PF songs, believe it or not! I think that the album would be much better without ANM 1 & 2. And The Dogs Of War.

Re: Best Song On Momentary Lapse Of Reason

#1-Sorrow (Just awesome, I also drew a picture of what it ment to me in art class )
#2-Yet Another Movie/Round and Around (Close 2nd to Sorrow. I like the intro with the sample, the cry of anguish, the guitar solo, the lyrics, etc. too much to really list )
#3-On The Turning Away (Great, awesome guitar solo, well-put together.)
#4-Terminal Frost (A good instrumental)
#6-Learning to Fly (Fun)
#7-Signs of Life (Another good instrumental)

#8-Dogs of War (A bit too simple, but I like the part with the solos, and it's better than the others below it)
#9-One Slip (A bit too poppy)
#10-A New Machine Parts 1 & 2 (The bottom of the barrel, but Part 1 sets up the entrance for Terminal Frost which is good )
