Driven, my good man!

Ah...a wrinkle in our Floydian similitude! After I read your post, I re-listened to both versions of LtF and Sorrow. I still prefer Pulse version of LtF, but I can go either way on Sorrow.

Still would like to drink a few pints of Guinness with you though!

Re: Best Song On Momentary Lapse Of Reason

I voted for Signs of Life, On The Turning Away and Sorrow. My favourite song on the album is SoL, but I think that the Pulse (CD) version is better than the album version.

And listen to the DSoT version of Comfy Numb REAL loud.

I used to fly aircraft...and the first time I went solo I sung Learning to Fly (while wondering how I was going to land the bloody thing!!!).

Thought you'd like to know!!!

Woah! Bet it was wild. Obviously you got back to Mother Earth - hopefully w/o incident.

Me? I'm just tongue-tied and twisted, just an earth-bound misfit, I

I was going over some of the older posts on this topic (obviously) when I found this bit, and it reminded me...

Somewhere, I read in an interview with David that this was (possibly) his least favorite track on the album, as he felt it was the most "commercial" of the lot, what with the verse/chorus/verse construction and the fade-out at the end, etc.

But what's really strange (I think) is that a lot of my friends who are RogerFans (and that's most of the Floyd fans I know personally) like this song quite a lot.

I wonder why that is?

Cheers!

It's because it gives them more ammunition to advance their position that Pink Floyd (1987 and beyond) is "commercial" and different (usually for the worse) since Roger left the band.
That's all I have to say.

A little clarification...

I'll reiterate:

I said that "a lot of my friends who are RogerFans (and that's most of the Floyd fans I know personally) like this song quite a lot."

Please note that I didn't say RogerFans in the general sense - just a good lot of the ones that I know, up close and personal. And they don't like it for "Ammunition" as was so cheekily pointed out - they really do LIKE the song.

That's what I find so strange.

Cheers!

Seriously now, I think that it's just a matter of personal taste. Sorry for being so rude in my last post.

Re: Best Song On Momentary Lapse Of Reason

I don't listen to this one too often but here's my choices:

Signs of life- great instrumental, even better on DSoT.

Learning to fly- love this one. Has great sentimental value, though not because I or anyone close has learnt to fly. For me it is really about liberation.

Dogs of War- reminds me of the current political situation in relation to the Middle East so I sing along to it with more fury and passion than I used to. (I hate Tony Blair! He leaves a slime trail behind him as he walks! )

One Slip- Very catchy and sounds 90s even though it was done in the 80s.

Sorrow- I love this one. I can't explain it. Perhaps its the wonderful guitar solo at the beginning and the fade out. Maybe its the words and the music. I just don't know.

Terminal Frost- I love this one and I can say this has sentimental meaning because I have been to Canada, can't remember where though. The landscape was fantastic amd this song was what I thought I thought of.

The worst is A New Machine. I hate it with a passion and automatically skip it.
