Who's releasing decent stuff nowadays?

Other than Tool and Radiohead, who do you think is releasing decent or half-decent records or singles this day and age.

I ask this because I turn my radio on and give a listen to whatever passes as rock & roll these days, and man, I find it repetitive, formulaic, simplistic and most of it downright ordinary.

There ARE great bands though, what do YOU think?

Though I haven't tried actively to search them out, I would think that hope would be in small bands that don't cater to the Machine of the music industry.

Couldn't agree with you more there FW.

You have a way with words, don't you?

lately i've been getting into a lot of popular stuff like: the strokes, the hives, the white stripes, and brmc. some other good stuff is the beachwood sparks, sigur ros, starsailor, british sea power, death cab for cutie, electric soft parade, gorky's zygotic mynci, kingsbury manx, the vines, and porcupine tree who is coming out with a new album in sept. i can't wait. though the best new band i have heard recently is the technicolours. they are pure genius. and the keyboard player is the best i've ever heard.

As far as today goes...I don't think anything is left. But I'm all for what FW has stated. My guitar intructor has been playing me some of his original stuff, and it is very promising. I'd watch out for them if they ever get big. He's into stuff like Pink Floyd, Led Zep, etc, etc....though his band's name is Full Size Jimmy...and they do have an intrumental dubbed "Sexy Cancer". I don't know, I'm just proud that they have a good line up such as Pink Floyd's..guitar, bass, drums, keyboards...'s all you need

Well, he's not a rock band, but I'll say Eminem. His stuff is entertaining and I admire him for speaking his mind.

I don't know if you are talking just about new/younger artists, anyway, Tom Waits released two albums which are two masterpieces for poetry and music IMO. Alice and Blood Money. Is there anybody out there familiar with Waits' works?

I dunno if anyone's into metal, but System of a Down is releasing some very original stuff these days.
Unfortenatly (sic.), a lot of the good stuff is underground these days. For one part, Brandon, Florida (a small part of Tampa that is about five minutes from Riverview, my place) has a stunningly original punk rock scene, all revolving around this one record store named Sound Idea that let's it's back room out as a place to play shows. A lot of these bands are great; some are sloppy, some are very tight. But a good deal of them are awesome.
Another place to look underground for good music is a little section called 'industrial' music... bands like KMFDM, Ministry, Pigface, Revolting Cocks... all are reletively well-known, and still doing good stuff (not KMFDM, though: their new album really blows). Industrial music is mostly electronic-based rough stuff. But, strangely, it works in a lot of situations.

As for other music, TSGE is awesome! Their solitary member does really odd stuff with water jugs and microphones.
I also love the Technicolours... they have a keyboardist made of gold.

Lately there are some good rock'n roll bands who release good stuff like The White Stripes, The Strokes or Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Also I think REM is doing some very good music.

I have a question : What's the name of The White Stripes' song with that lego-made video? I always forget it!!!

And BTW, Rammstein lately made some few good songs!
